What Can We Do?
๐๐พโโ๏ธ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐๐จ๐ณ
What do you do? How can we preserve nature and protect our wildlife? Weโre all for progress but Florida is being bulldozed at a record pace. We see dead owls and hawks on the side of highways almost daily. They are being chased out of land cleared for the next community or strip mall that pops up overnight. Get this, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) issues permits to remove active hawk nests that contain eggs or chicks. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and Florida law protect all Florida raptors, including their nests, eggs, and birds themselves. Itโs illegal to intentionally or unintentionally take these birds, their eggs, nests, or young without proper authorization, but land that is being cleared daily doesnโt seem to be bothered by this law. Itโs as if no one cares and itโs all about the money to be made, lining the political pockets for funding of the next campaign, etc. Florida is a beautiful state and itโs completely understandable why folks are moving here but it seems that way more care should be taken for our natural habitat.
