Ever wondered about the General Store and Post Office you pass in the heart of Orkney Springs on your way to a summer concert? The main hub of town has gone through various transformations over the years—large two-story hotel, candy store for kids, weighing station for hunters, post office, ice cream shop, and now rental cottage.
In 1987, longtime postmaster and first Director of Shrine Mont, Mr. Wilmer Moomaw told the Washington Post about the beloved Shenandoah Valley Music Festival concerts, “Night life in Orkney Springs is not too rambunctious.” These days, we would say that concert nights are just the right amount of rambunctious! Rollicking fun, but still happily relaxing. Note the photos showing the site through the years, starting with the two-story Mountain View Hotel which burned down long ago. Music Festival visitors are invited to stay in the current cottage, just steps from the stage: In case you are having a hard time with the link above (it asks you to login) This one takes you directly to the listing: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/47878899?source_impression_id=p3_1714397855_K6u9We2iE4ZdMEK3
