I stayed at four different hotels during my recent Costa Rica trip, but my absolute favorite was Tocu Tent Camp. 🌿
Let me take you there…
You arrive to a fresh washcloth with the most wonderful scent and a glass of fresh dragon fruit juice. That first sip was delicious, and I quickly became obsessed with their fresh fruit drinks.
Then you’re led to your tent while someone brings your luggage. I stepped onto the wooden porch, unzipped the tent flap, and discovered a glass sliding door just inside. Beyond it were dark wooden floors and a space I immediately loved.
And then I heard it: rain gently drizzling onto the tent roof.
Behind the bed was an open bathroom, and another set of sliding doors at the back led to an outdoor shower, bathtub, and sitting area. I loved how much the space invited you to experience the outdoors.
After dark, the walkways stay dimly lit, so a flashlight from your room helps you find your way. Mosquito spray and umbrellas are provided, too. There’s even a natural pool for an evening dip—and we were told that sometimes fish join you! 🐟
But my favorite part? Simply listening.
The nighttime temperature was pleasant, and I fell asleep to the rain on my tent roof. At 5:30 the next morning, I woke to that same gentle rain, birds singing, and a monkey hollering nearby.
Quite the wake-up call. 🐒
I lay there and listened. Before I had even stepped outside, the sounds around me were already giving me a glimpse of the morning.
Breakfast brought fresh fruit, delicious juice, and another reason to linger.
This stay reminded me that experiencing nature doesn’t always mean looking for something. Sometimes it means slowing down enough to hear it. The rain overhead. A bird you haven’t spotted yet. A monkey somewhere nearby.
At Tocu, I felt that connection with my heart and soul. It’s a feeling I’ll carry with me long after coming home.
I look forward to exploring more of Costa Rica in February.
If your idea of an adventure includes slowing down and connecting with nature, I’d love to help you find your own little corner of Costa Rica. 💚 ~ Melissa
