At Misty Pond Alpaca and Maremmas, Ruth and Rick Brinly have created something quietly extraordinary. There’s a moment, standing with Ruth and Rick among their furry colony, when the scene feels almost otherworldly. Sam Lynn of Paducah and Scott Napier of Owensboro, have received the Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. The two will work together to advance the art form of Bluegrass music in 2027. The purpose of the Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grant is to encourage the continuation of Kentucky’s living traditional arts by funding a mentor artist to teach skills to a less experienced artist.

Sam Lynn has been studying Bluegrass music since he was five years old. Now 17, Lynn has had the opportunity to share the stage with many national touring bands. He is also an active participant in the Kids on Bluegrass program with the International Bluegrass Music Association. Scott Napier currently focuses on music education, working with Grand Ole Opry member Bobby Osbourne to produce mandolin videos.

The two musicians will work together over the course of the year to compose an original
song and perform shows together in both Owensboro and Paducah.
