Important travel update from the Dominican Republic: 🚨

On June 19, 2026, a major fire broke out at Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, resulting in a large scale evacuation of guests and significant damage to the resort.

Reports indicate that nearly 1,700 travelers were evacuated. Tragically, one guest has been reported deceased, and several others received medical attention.

At this time, officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. Early reports indicate that the fire may have spread quickly due to palm/thatch-style roof structures and wind conditions.

Guests were reportedly relocated to nearby hotels and accommodations, and the nearby Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace was not damaged.

This is a heartbreaking situation, and my thoughts are with the guests, their family, the resort staff, emergency responders, and everyone who had to experience this while traveling.

For anyone with upcoming travel to this property or the surrounding Bayahibe area, I would recommend contacting your booking provider, travel advisor, or resort representative directly for the most current information before departure.

Another Hyatt Inclusive Collection update to be aware of:🚨

Effective September 30, 2026, Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa will no longer be affiliated with Hyatt or the Inclusive Collection.

For guests with reservations on or after that date, the resort will no longer be operated or branded as Breathless, and it will no longer participate in the World of Hyatt loyalty program.

Hyatt has stated that the terms of existing reservations are expected to be honored following the transition. Guests may also receive additional information from the resort’s new operator as the transition date approaches.

This comes shortly after the recent Hyatt Vivid Grand Island transition announcement, so it’s definitely something Cancun travelers should be aware of if they are considering or currently holding reservations at these properties.

I’ll continue monitoring updates like this and sharing anything that may impact travelers.

One of the biggest regrets I hear from people isn't taking too many vacations.

It's waiting too long to take them.

There will always be work to do.
There will always be bills to pay.
There will always be reasons to put the trip off until "someday."

But the memories you make with the people you love are worth far more than anything.

Lisa and I have learned that some of our favorite memories have come from simply saying "yes" and taking the trip.

Hyatt Vivid Grand Island Update 🚨

If you've been following Cancun resort news recently, there has been a significant announcement regarding Hyatt Vivid Grand Island in Cancun.

Effective August 19, 2026, the resort will no longer operate under the Hyatt brand, they will leave the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, and will no longer participate in the World of Hyatt loyalty program. Existing reservations are expected to be honored following the transition.

This update hits a little closer to home for us because Lisa and I stayed at Hyatt Vivid Grand Island in 2025 and genuinely enjoyed the experience. The rooftop pool, modern design, relaxed adults-only atmosphere, and overall value made it one of the more unique resorts we've visited in Cancun.

What happens next remains to be seen. The property is expected to transition to new management, and additional details about its future branding and guest experience should become clearer in the coming months.

For travelers with existing reservations:
✅ Current bookings are expected to be honored
✅ The resort is not closing
⚠️ Future stays after August 19 will no longer earn World of Hyatt points or elite night credits

If you're staying at a Hyatt Vivid or Sunscape all-inclusive resort, here's a quick heads-up…

Beginning June 1, 2026, these resorts will implement a $10 USD room service delivery fee per order for in-room dining.

A few quick details:

• Fee applies per order (not per guest)
• Up to 10 food items + 4 beverages per order
• Additional orders = additional fee
• Applies to all room categories
• Guests will see the charge before placing an order

Small changes like this are why it’s helpful to know the details before you arrive.

Just something to be aware of before travel so there are no surprises.
