🐢 Sea Turtle Nesting Season is One Month Away – Here’s What You Should Know! 🌊
April is here, which means we’re just one month away from the start of sea turtle nesting season along the Gulf Coast! 🏝️ From May through October, female sea turtles will be making their way ashore to lay their eggs, and hatchlings will begin their incredible journey to the sea.
How You Can Help:
🌙 Lights Out, Turtles Out – Bright lights disorient nesting mothers and hatchlings. Keep beachfront lights off or use turtle-friendly lighting.
🦶 Leave No Trace – Knock down sandcastles, fill in holes, and remove beach furniture to prevent obstacles for nesting turtles.
🚮 Pick Up Your Trash – Litter and plastic pollution can be harmful to both nesting turtles and hatchlings.
🏖️ Keep Your Distance – If you see a nesting turtle, remain quiet and stay back to avoid disturbing her.
🐢 Report Tracks & Nests – If you see turtle tracks or a nest, contact your local sea turtle conservation group to help ensure it’s protected.
