Our third port day - 𝑺𝒕. 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒊𝒙, 𝑼𝑺𝑽𝑰!

☀️Again, we opted for a relaxing day. Just steps off the ship, we were met with dozens of taxis available to take us to local beaches. We spent $10 roundtrip total for the 3 of us to go a few miles away to Rainbow Beach. We are usually early to get off the boat, so had no problem getting chairs at the beach. This is a smaller beach, so I recommend getting there early to claim a spot! We paid another $25 for two beach chairs and an umbrella ⛱️. You don’t have to rent them to still get access to the beach, but with a toddler it’s great to have somewhere to sit in the shade!

🌊The beach also has a bar and restaurant right on the water, Rhythms Beach Bar. Perfect for getting out of the sun for a bit, but still able to enjoy that view! And there is something about a painkiller by the beach…my MD friends, IYKYK!

We headed back to town around 2:30 to browse the shops. They also had locals set up in tents outside the port selling shirts, magnets, and other souvenirs for reasonable prices. We were back on the boat by 3:30 for a poolside mudslide 🍹and to search for some turtles 🐢from the deck!

Our second port day - San Juan, Puerto Rico!

We normally opt for a relaxing beach day. With or without a toddler, we prefer to spend some time in the sun, relax by the beach, and not have a time limit that you typically have with a planned excursion. However, we decided to do something different in San Juan. The weather was beautiful, so we walked to Castillo San Cristobal - a national historic site. The views were incredible, and it was fun to learn some history.

We then walked through the shops of San Juan and got the BEST gelato we have ever had. This is something you cannot miss on your trip to PR! After gelato, we went for some authentic PR food, empanadas and margaritas (backwards, I know, I know!), before heading back to the ship.

Our first of 4 port days - Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic!

This may have been our favorite port on any cruise we have ever taken! We opted to stay right at the cruise port and visit Taino Bay. It’s a private area that’s only available to cruisers, and has two large pools with swim up bars, restaurants & bars, and many shops to buy all your souvenirs.

It was great to not have to plan an excursion, but also have something worthwhile to do that was also steps away from the ship. It was such a relaxing day filled with snacks, sun, and tasty drinks!

❓So what’s included in the cost of your cruise?

Your cruise fare is mostly all-inclusive. You can certainly indulge in all the extras, but it is totally possible to enjoy amenities included in your cruise fare and not spend extra! Here are just some of the basics included in the cost of your cruise:

🍔Food and snacks
🎤Activities and shows (karaoke, family & adult only game shows, comedy shows, and broadway style shows, to name a few!)
👧Kid’s club - Adventure Ocean (care/clubs for kids aged 3-17 - most ships also have a nursery for children under 3!)
⛳️Signature activities and games (on our ship this would be things like the FlowRider, water slides, mini golf, and rock climbing wall)
☀️Pools and sun deck
🧖‍♀️Gym, saunas, and hot tubs

There is so much to do onboard, there truly just isn't enough time to do it all!

Day 4️⃣ was our first day at sea. I don’t have many pictures from our first full day, because we really just relaxed and truly unplugged.

We usually get a balcony room when cruising, I’ve actually never had a port hole room before. Admittedly I get seasick and was terrified that not being able to step out for fresh air would be a huge mistake, but I was so wrong! A port hole room saved us so much money and my girl spent so much time sitting in that window. Staying in a port hole room is a great way to experience a stellar cruise itinerary that might cost more money in a balcony room. We also only use our room for sleeping, so didn’t find it a big deal to have a smaller room.

This day was our first of 2 formal nights. The dinner menu features dishes that are on the fancier side. Cruising affords you the opportunity to try foods you might not otherwise eat or try at home, and the best part is it’s all (mostly) included in your cruise fare! Our ship had several specialty restaurants where you can pay extra to eat at, but we find the menu of the normal dining room to be fantastic and don’t feel the need to book specialty dining.

Day 3️⃣, it’s 🛳️CRUISE DAY!🛳️ We have anxiously awaited this 9 day, 8 night cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas.

We took a bit of a sleep in and got up for our last Mickey shaped food breakfast. Disney is about an hour from Port Canaveral, so around 10:30 we hopped in our rental car and were off to the port! There are definitely multiple transportation options to get your to/from the cruise port, but it was more cost effective for us to get a rental car this trip. Also I loved the convenience of having a car when our cruise ended. It made for such a smooth embarkation and debarkation!

We parked in the parking garage right at 12:00, and were on the boat before 12:30. We spent the next few hours exploring the ship, grabbing lunch at the Windjammer buffet, and watching us sail away!

We left Hollywood Studios around 1:15 and were on Main Street in Magic Kingdom by 2:00! Over the next 7 hours, we were able to ride and experience SO much:

✨It’s a Small World
✨Mad Tea Party - Tea cups

✨Journey of the Little Mermaid
✨Meet & greet with Belle and Cinderella
✨Happily Ever After (Fireworks and light show on the castle)

We left around 9 PM and had a super late dinner at the Wilderness lodge. Typically we would eat at the park and have a more go-with-the-flow type of day, but we had a lot to cram in our one full Disney day before heading to the cruise port the next day! 😎

Day 2️⃣ at Disney was an action packed day! We used Lightning Lane Multi Pass to maximize our day at Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. Lightning Lane is Disney’s feature that allows you to reserve your time to ride rides, rather than wait in the stand by line. We were able to do everything we wanted at both parks!

Staying at a Disney resort allowed us early entry into Hollywood Studios. Here’s what we did in the first four hours:

✨Alien Swirling Saucers
✨Disney Jr Play and Dance!
✨A Frozen Sing Along Celebration
✨Toy Story Mania
✨Meet & greet with Ariel

After the water park, we checked in for our 2 night stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This resort is conveniently located in the Magic Kingdom Resort area, and offers complimentary water transportation to the Magic Kingdom, as well as bus transportation to and from all Disney parks.

This 1 bedroom villa is perfect for families with children, or just anyone that wants something that provides extra space than a standard room. It includes 1 king bed and 1 queen-size pull-down bed (separate rooms) and a whirlpool bath tub, full kitchen, washer & dryer, and a vanity area separate from the bathroom for getting ready.

We had ourselves a relaxing evening by the pool and splash area, followed by dinner at their quick service dining, the Roaring Fork.

I have been a little MIA from this page for a couple weeks, and that’s because I was on an extended vacation with my little fam! We spent 2 nights at ✨Disney✨, and 8 nights on a 🛳Royal Caribbean cruise🛳. It was magical and relaxing, and I can’t wait to share the details with you!

I’ll spend the next few days recapping our travels here - where we went, highlights of the locations, and how to get the best bang for your buck.

We started our trip at Disney’s Blizzard Beach - 1 of their 2 waterparks! Disney closes 1 of their water parks at a time for seasonal refurbishment. Currently Typhoon Lagoon is closed and scheduled to reopen in late March. At that time, Blizzard Beach will close.

‼️So why am I telling you this?! 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 2025, 𝒈𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕 𝒂 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑯𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒍 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒋𝒐𝒚 𝑭𝑹𝑬𝑬 𝒂𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒅𝒂𝒚! For my east-coast friends this is such a fabulous deal. We were on a 6:15 AM flight out of BWI, and arrived at Blizzard Beach around 10:00 when they opened. All you do is scan your magic band and your in!

I expected to only spend a couple of hours there, but was SO surprised at how much was actually available for my toddler to do. She especially loved the family tube ride and Tike’s Peak, which is their Frozen themed splash &slide area for children under 48”!

I will definitely be incorporating water park visits in to my future Disney trips!
