This year, I experienced Cinco de Mayo in Monterrey, Mexico — and it wasn’t at all what I expected.
Back home, Cinco de Mayo means big parties, bright decorations, and lots of tacos and margaritas. But here in Mexico, it's a quieter day — especially outside of Puebla, where the historic Battle of Puebla was won.
Walking around Monterrey, I saw daily life moving at its usual pace: families running errands, kids heading to school, shopkeepers opening up for the day. No big parades, no festivals, just the authentic rhythm of Mexican life.
And honestly, that made it even more special. 🌎
Sometimes when you travel, the most memorable experiences come from realizing that what you thought you knew was just the surface. I'm grateful I got to see Mexico through its own eyes — not through the lens of a celebration invented elsewhere.
Here's to many more trips that challenge and change what I thought I knew. ❤️
