We ended the day with 26 miles down and 4763 feet of elevation gain.
I love my long run me time. What a way to dial in and clear the mind and build the soul.
Heat sucked though, made me swell up like good year blimp 🙄

Getting bit by a snake in a remote area is probably my biggest fear. Especially as a woman that is often times 10-20 miles from the trail head and alone. So what should one do if they do find themselves in a p**s poor situation with a snake? I think the most important thing to know is your heart rate plays the largest role in how fast the venom will spread. So staying calm, moving slowly, not running and not freaking out are the most important things you can do to self rescue yourself. Know that in our area most first responders are volunteers so anytime you can self rescue it’s probably in your best interest to do just that, especially if time is of importance. Also NEVER tie a tourniquet around the bitten area. Restricting blood flow to that area can most likely leave you with an amputation. Don’t try and suck the venom out, you can potentially end up with a second infection area. If you can keep the bitten area elevated above your heart that’s good. If not, stay calm, keep your heart rate as low as possible and get to a road, cell service or the trail head. Once you can call 911 do so immediately so they can dispatch ambulance and have hospital staff ready before you get there.
Knowing the area you’re in can save your life. (I know I’m guilty of going in blind to new areas too, it’s exciting and fun, but comes with risk.)
