As a photographer I love capturing pictures of cherished family moments or special life events. But my avid love for photography started with observing nature and taking my trusty camera along with me. I love being in nature and sharing it with everyone through the view from my lens. So as I capture beautiful nature scenes, I will be sure to share it with all of my fellow nature lovers. Who knows what you will see on the back roads of Missouri!

This past weekend we took advantage of the sunny Sunday afternoon and warmer temperatures to explore a Missouri Conservation site close to our new home. We noticed the Perry Lookout Tower on our way to Fredericktown a few weekends ago and decided to visit.

From the ground the tower made an impressive sight as you gazed up. At ground level there was a slight breeze. As we started up the stairs the tower began to sway with our steps and the wind. Closer to the top, the wind became stronger and standing at the top seemed very daunting. It made all of the signs at the bottom make more sense. But the view from the top was worth battling those ferocious winds. I can only imagine how beautiful it would look on a fall day.

After we reached the bottom and were on solid ground, I began to wonder about the men and women that utilized this tower to do the job it was built for. After some research, I found an article in Missouri Life Magazine that told about fire towers in Missouri. After reading the article I discovered the tower we visited was built in 1963 and is 100 feet tall. The article told about the man who utilized this tower to watch for fires and some of his experiences. The article was very enlightening. You can find the link here, if you are interested in reading more.

Missouri still has a few fire towers open for the public to climb those groaning steps for a birds eye view of our beautiful forests. In Southeast Missouri there is K**b Lick tower, Gipsy tower, Perry Lookout tower, and Taum Sauk tower. So take those backroads and go discover those above the tree line.

Our Story

Hey eveyone! I am a Missouri gal born and raised. I am a elementary teacher by day and a weekend hiker. I love living in our beautiful state! My love for photography and hiking started several years ago, in college. I love being in nature and sharing it with everyone through the view from my lens. As I capture beautiful nature scenes, I am excited to share it with all of my fellow nature lovers. It’s my goal to travel the Missouri back roads to visit those lesser known Conservation areas. I hope to showcase some lesser known areas of our beautiful state all while hiking or riding sxs. Who knows what you will see on the back roads of Missouri! So get out there and discover those #mobackroadsadventurees
