Yesterday I took the entire day and roamed around the Walt Disney World Resort. It was a big day yesterday. In fact, there have been a lot of big days at Disney World recently! In just the past few weeks we’ve seen a fully re-imagined Buzz Lightyear reopen, Big Thunder Mountain come back online after an 18 month full rebuild, and yesterday marked the official opening of the new Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster featuring the Muppets, the new Animation Courtyard at Hollywood Studios, and the new Soarin Over America film at the Land Pavilion in EPCOT.
My plan? Experience them all in one day! I started early at the Studios and was pleased to see the line for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was a modest 45 minutes. With so much new to see in the queue area, plus the preshow, the time flew by. I have to say this retheme brings a whole new light and fun energy to the ride. You could ride it ten times and still find new Easter Eggs! Very well done by Disney on this one!
Afterwards I strolled though the Animation Courtyard. I really like what they did with this area. They really plussed up what was kind of a drab area before. It looks great with lots of nice little touches evoking the real Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.
I wrapped up my time at the Studios and hopped a Friendship to EPCOT. Again the line for Soarin was just 40 minutes and before I knew it I was airborne, flying high over some of Americas most scenic attractions. I won’t give away any of the secrets, but suffice it to say I thought it hit the perfect note for our 250th birthday! And they kept that majestic original score, which I just love!
Now it was monorail time! Over to Magic Kingdom for a wait for Buzz that was a bit longer and a bit hotter than I wished it was, but it’s SO worth it. This new version is an evolution not just of the prior iteration, it even surpasses the Disneyland version which was always my favorite. All new interactive targets, new scenes, and lots of fun wait around every turn. This one is my absolute favorite of all the new options we have!
Lastly I hit Frontierland for a spin on the “wildest ride in the wilderness!” I have always adored Big Thunder and boy did it get even better. It’s so much smoother than it used to be, the new show scenes are great, and guess what? Cushioned seats!! No more sliding around on that hard plastic, squishing your ride mate at every turn! Great work, Imagineering!
