If youâre still thinking you have to âjust give it timeâ to feel confident as a nurseâŚ
Listen up ⤾ď¸
Not only is this NOT true, but itâs costing you your sanity, your confidence, and your ability to actually enjoy nursing.
You donât have to wait years to feel in control on your shiftsâjust like you donât have to run a marathon to be considered a runner.
Here are 3 things I would do ASAP to build confidence as a new nurse:
â
Use the 60-Second Scanâ Before you touch a patient, scan the room, the IV pumps, the monitors, and the patientâs overall appearance. This keeps you ahead of potential problems.
â
Start Thinking in Prioritiesâ Not everything is STAT. When your brain is overloaded, ask yourself: _What will have the biggest impact on patient safety RIGHT NOW?_
â
Speak Up Early & Often â The more you ask questions, clarify orders, and confirm details, the faster youâll learn (and the more respect youâll gain).
