If you’re still thinking you have to “just give it time” to feel confident as a nurse…
Listen up ⤵️
Not only is this NOT true, but it’s costing you your sanity, your confidence, and your ability to actually enjoy nursing.
You don’t have to wait years to feel in control on your shifts—just like you don’t have to run a marathon to be considered a runner.
Here are 3 things I would do ASAP to build confidence as a new nurse:
✅ Use the 60-Second Scan– Before you touch a patient, scan the room, the IV pumps, the monitors, and the patient’s overall appearance. This keeps you ahead of potential problems.
✅ Start Thinking in Priorities– Not everything is STAT. When your brain is overloaded, ask yourself: _What will have the biggest impact on patient safety RIGHT NOW?_
✅ Speak Up Early & Often – The more you ask questions, clarify orders, and confirm details, the faster you’ll learn (and the more respect you’ll gain).
