These guys came all the way from Idaho to experience saltwater fishing for the first time. One thing was at the top of their list: catching a shark. With limited time on the water and wanting everyone to get in on the action while still leaving time to target a few other species, we decided to go shark fishing for Atlantic Sharpnose sharks. These guys average about 3 feet, are plentiful, aggressive feeders, and very cooperative this time of year—making them the perfect choice for first-time shark anglers. Everyone got to experience the thrill of catching a shark before we moved on to chase a mixed bag of reef fish.

The Sharpnose Sharks have arrived in full force off OIB. My customers caught at least 10 of them yesterday while bottom fishing. Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish are thick along the beaches right now as well. We also landed our first nearshore Gag Grouper of the year yesterday. I’m looking forward to targeting Grouper and Red Snapper this summer whenever conditions allow.

Had a great day fishing nearshore today. Reds, Flounder, Spadefish, Sharks, and the usual mixed bag of reef fish.

It was a sloooow, windy morning (must have been 25+ mph gusts), but we still put together a mixed bag of small trout and flounder. I am soooooo happy the wind is supposed to settle down tonight and stay that way for a few days.
