On an Ama Waterways river cruise, you will enjoy an extensive lineup of included tours. In many cases, you will have a choice of excursions, such as standard tours, bike tours, hikes and Special Interest Tours. There are always a large variety of activities on offer so that you can choose how you want to explore. No matter your preference, your days will be full of discovery and wonder. 🥾🚲

AmaWaterways has extended the sailing season on the Douro River as late as December! Here are just a few of the added sparkles that the autumn and winter seasons bring to journeys through this incredible region. 🍁❄️

1. Portugal’s Second Most Popular Fruit 🫒
Olives are grown alongside grapevines at many Portuguese wineries. If you travel during the harvest (August-November), you may witness the locals striking tree branches with sticks and collecting fallen olives from the ground. Their scent and flavor are beyond compare — and bottles of Portuguese olive oil make terrific souvenirs.

2. Crimson Glory and Sweater Weather ❤️🧡💛
The Douro Valley’s dramatic slopes and vineyards are blanketed in a sea of red and gold as autumn announces its presence in Portugal. Average temperatures range from about 45-58° F in November and December, so while you may not experience a “white Christmas,” you will be treated to wonderful weather for our included hikes in Castelo Rodrigo, at Lamego Holy Staircase and through Porto.

3. A Magical Manger Appearance ✨
Throughout Portugal, nativity scenes typically outnumber Christmas trees. But do not expect to see Baby Jesus in the manger until after Missa do Galo(midnight mass) has ended. It is tradition for parents to place him there just before Father Christmas, known locally as Pai Natal, arrives with gifts — much to children’s delight!

🌵 Arizona’s Red Rock Country is well-known as an outdoor mecca - It’s also a place to find calm with this itinerary that lets you both explore and relax all in one day.

Don’t forget your hiking boots though, because here’s how you’ll be spending one perfect day in Sedona:

🍳 7:00 am- Savor a calm, creekside breakfast at your hotel, L’Auberge de Sedona. Linger with your coffee for a few extra minutes to enjoy the birds’ morning chorus.

🏜️ 8:00 am- Arrive to beautiful Fay Canyon for a morning hike through a striking red rock ravine with waterfalls, seasonal wildflowers and an impressive natural stone arch during the cooler morning hours.

🏊‍♂️ 10:30 am- Head just 20 minutes south to Red Rock State Park to enjoy jaw dropping views of Cathedral Rock at one of Arizona’s most beautiful swimming holes.

🫔 12:30 pm- Make your way to Tamaliza for lunch. Claudia Gonzalez - who grew up southwest of Mexico City - handmakes her organic masa tamales daily.

🖼️ 1:30 pm- Drop by the acclaimed Sedona Arts Center to browse its galleries and snag some local art from the finely curated shop.

💆🏻‍♀️ 3:00 pm- Unwind with a late afternoon Flower Essence Massage back at L’Auberge de Sedona. Enjoy the sound of rushing water providing a backdrop to your restorative treatment.

🍹 6:00 pm- It’s time for dinner at the renowned Cafe Elote, owned by James Beard Award-winning chef James Smedstad. Enjoy a margarita (or two 😉) from your patio seat overlooking the red rocks at sunset.
