After more than a year and half under Stage 3 restrictions and months facing a looming water emergency, Port Aransas now is living under eased water restrictions.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District (WCID) No. 4, which supplies Port Aransas its tap water, downgraded water restrictions to Stage 2.
The WCID did that immediately after the City of Corpus Christi announced it was going to Stage 2 in response to recent Hill Country rainfall running downstream and raising local reservoir levels.
The restrictions observed by the water district in Port Aransas always reflect those in Corpus Christi. A large percentage of the water district's water comes from the Corpus Christi Water Department.
No lawn sprinkling with tap water was allowed under Stage 3 restrictions. Under Stage 2 restrictions, sprinkling now may be done one day every two weeks. But all of the watering that day needs to take place early in the morning or late in the day. No watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Sprinkling can take place today in the part of Port Aransas that lies north of Beach Access Road 1. The next time areas south of the access road can irrigate will be on Wednesday, Aug 12. A map and calendar with this post shows the schedule for future watering days.
While restrictions have been eased, water district officials still are encouraging folks to not be wasteful with water.
(You'll see lots more about this in the next edition of the South Jetty newspaper, which will be published tomorrow. The paper will be available at stores all over Port Aransas and online at www.portasouthjetty.com.)

Behind every landmark, tradition, and treasured memory in Port Aransas are the people who helped shape this island into the place we know and love today.
From fishermen who knew these waters by heart, to boat builders, business owners, families, and community leaders who dedicated their lives to Port A - their stories are the foundation of our town’s history.
This month, we’re celebrating the people behind the place and sharing the stories of those who helped build the Port Aransas community through generations.
Because the buildings tell a story, but the people built Port A.
Who is someone who helped make Port Aransas special for you? Share their story in the comments. We’d love to hear about the people who made this island feel like home.
