Happy Labor Day, friends!

Did you know Labor Day started back in the late 1800s as a way to honor the American worker—the men and women whose hard work built this country? It’s a celebration of dedication, perseverance, and the value of a good day’s work.

Keith and I both put in our share of hard work over the years. Keith started working at H-E-B in Ennis, TX when he was just 15. He worked a variety of jobs before joining Dallas Pest & Termite in 1987—and eventually opened his own pest control business.

As for me, I stayed home with the kids until they were in school, then went back to finish my education. I taught for a while and then spent 20 years in school administration.

When we were in the thick of those working years, life was good. But let me tell you something, retirement is the bomb diggety! 💣

We answer to no one, set our own schedules (here’s a secret—there are no schedules 🤫), and every day is different. People say retirement might be boring, but honestly, it’s whatever you make of it. We are LOVING this season of life.

If I could give anyone advice, it would be this: don’t wait too long. Retire while you’re young enough to chase your dreams and physically able to enjoy them.

60 mph winds and hail? 😳 And we were sitting in an Airstream!

Last night’s storm was a little bit worrisome. With wind gusts predicted around 60 mph and penny-sized hail in the forecast, we weren’t exactly sure what we were going to wake up to this morning.

Thankfully, we made it through! 🙌

Here’s a short video so you can see how we fared after the storm. ⛈️

Ohio weather doesn’t change… it has a full-blown identity crisis! 😬

I always thought Texas weather was crazy, but Ohio weather is on another level! The weather changes and storms appear quicker than a blink of an eye. One minute it’s sunny and beautiful, and the next minute you’re wondering if you need a basement, a raincoat, and a tornado shelter! ⛈️

✨ Things can get a little crazy around here! 😂

Keith put the shine on the Airstream today, and while he was busy making it sparkle, I was busy proving that my hearing (or lack thereof) can make life pretty entertaining. 🤣

When I asked, “Did you spray it on the window, too?” …well, apparently that wasn’t quite what he said. 😂

You’ll have to watch the video to hear what I thought I heard. Trust me, it’s worth a chuckle! 😆

Yesterday was National Dog Day! 🐾❤️

Over the years, we’ve had plenty of four-legged friends—from Chihuahuas to Great Danes!

This is Sir Lancelot. We inherited him from our daughter when she moved into an apartment that didn’t allow dogs.

Lance was the last dog we had before retiring and moving into our Airstream. He’ll always have a special place in our hearts. ❤️

Now it’s your turn—drop a picture of your dog in the comments so we can all ooh and ahh! 🐶🥰

When you live the nomadic lifestyle and only have one vehicle, routine maintenance isn’t optional—it’s critical! 🚙🔧

Keith recently tackled a big maintenance job on our truck and changed all the fluids in the front and rear differentials and the transfer case.

He said the job wasn’t difficult… just time-consuming and a little messy! 😂

But doing it himself saved us about $350, so I’d say the mess was worth it! 💰

When your truck is your only way to get around—and it’s also responsible for towing your home—you definitely want to keep it in top shape!

Do you do your own vehicle maintenance, or do you leave it to the professionals?

Price Check! ⛽️💸

Ugh! Time to fill up the tank…and this one hurts! 😩

Diesel prices are definitely taking a bite out of the travel budget these days. 🚛💨

How much are you paying for diesel where you are? Drop your price and location in the comments. 👇

Let’s see who’s getting the best—and worst—deal! 😂

Today is International Medical Transport Day, and let me tell you—ambulance crews, flight nurses, paramedics, pilots, and helicopter transport teams don't get nearly the recognition they deserve.

Our family has needed them three times over the years.

If you've followed our page for very long, you probably know that some of us tend to live life a little… wildly. 😂

Here are three stories that remind me just how thankful we should be for the people who answer the call when seconds matter.

Incident #1 — Keith vs. the Four-Wheeler

While visiting friends in East Texas, Keith decided to race across a field on a four-wheeler. He flipped end over end and landed on a pile of cow manure. 🤦‍♀️

Fortunately, others were riding with him and witnessed the accident. When they realized Keith wasn't breathing, one stayed with him while the other raced to find me. We immediately called 911.

While we waited for the CareFlight helicopter, our dear friend Bob started CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation and brought Keith back to life.

Keith was flown to the nearest trauma center, where he received the care he needed and ultimately made a full recovery.

Incident #2 — My History With Dirt Bike Racing

At 40 years old, I entered my first cross-country dirt bike race. During the almost 10 years I competed, I broke my collarbone twice, three ribs, and the top of my humerus.

The collarbone and ribs were painful, but nothing compared to the shoulder injury. The pain was so severe that I had to be sedated and transported by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Incident #3 — Jesse's Motocross Crash

While practicing at a motocross track about 40 miles from home, our 22-year-old son Jesse jumped a big tabletop and crashed on the landing. He knew immediately that he was seriously hurt. We just didn't know how badly.

After lying on the ground for what seemed like forever, Jesse somehow managed to drag himself into the back seat of my truck, and I drove him to our hometown hospital as quickly as I could.

The hospital staff put him on a backboard and took him for X-rays. That's when the doctor discovered that Jesse had shattered his L3 vertebra.

The decision was made to CareFlight him to a major Dallas hospital where an incredible neurosurgeon was waiting for him. Thanks be to God, Jesse made a full recovery. 🙏

Three accidents - three times when highly trained medical professionals stepped in and changed the course of our lives.
Without the expertise, professionalism, courage, and compassion of the people who work in medical transport, our family stories could have ended very differently.

A simple "thank you" doesn't even begin to express our gratitude.
So today, on International Medical Transport Day, I want to say THANK YOU to every paramedic, EMT, flight nurse, helicopter pilot, dispatcher, emergency physician, and medical transport professional who gets people where they need to be when they need it most.

You may never know all the lives you've touched—or the families who get to hug their loved ones because you showed up. We are incredibly grateful for you. ❤️🚑🚁

Have you or someone you love ever needed an ambulance, helicopter, or other medical transport?
