Our 15 year old grandson was a good sport yesterday when we recreated a couple of pics from Gardner, Illinois from 2011 on this weekend’s Route 66 trip. And yeah, I’ve got on the same hat!

I was so impressed with my visit to Luray, Virginia earlier today that I decided Jennifer had to see it too as we started our way back home to Indiana tonight after her training workshop just outside of DC for her job. I’ll post on our sleeps here in Luray tomorrow!

But for our eats, we’d not done Italian in a while, so we chose Il Vesuvio Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria in downtown Luray. Jennifer got the Stromboli and I had a 12 inch pizza (sausage, mushroom, pepperoni, and banana peppers for those of you interested).

First, service was GREAT! And hey, we all know service can make or break your dining experience. Izabella was our server, and she was attentive and had a personality you wish all servers would have!

And the food was REALLY good! I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to finish off my pizza or have to take it back to the motel, but I spared it no mercy and ate every piece of that 12 inch pan of cheesy goodness. You can tell one of the owners was born in Naples, Italy and learned a thing or two over there! I give Il Vesuvio 5 🍕 🍕 🍕 🍕 🍕 out of 5!

Like most kids growing up in the late 1970’s, Friday nights were spent glued to CBS. First The Incredible Hulk and then The Dukes of Hazzard.

I got to jump headfirst back into my childhood while in Virginia this week and visited Cooter’s in Luray, Virginia, just to the west of the Shenandoah National Park on US Route 211. The current location in Luray opened in 2017 after spending several years in nearby Sperryville.

Cooter’s is every Dukes’ fan’s dream. It boasts a museum, a huge gift shop, replicas of the General Lee, Cooter's tow truck, Boss Hogg’s Cadillac, and Daisy’s Jeep. The memorabilia is quite impressive and the photos from the show’s filming tells a lot of stories. Also included are some of the political history of the late Ben Jones, who played Cooter Davenport on the Dukes. Ben served in the US Congress in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s when he resided in Georgia.

And the Wally's Trifecta is complete! Left southern Indiana this morning and hit Whitestown, Pontiac, and now Fenton. A great day visiting all three Wally’s! And now, the journey back home!

Wally's stop #2 at the original in Pontiac, Illinois. Picked up some drinks, a pretzel, and a Stuckey's pecan log roll! We now move on to Wally’s stop #3 in Fenton, Missouri to finish off today’s Wally’s Trifecta!

It’s no secret we love Wally's Great American Roadtrip stores. And I’ve often told Jennifer one of these days, I want to hit all 3 locations in the same day. Crazy? Yes. Some days I wake up and think about crazy roadtrips. Today was one of those days. And today, that crazy roadtrip is happening. We’ll post from each stop for food and fuel!
