Capetown... what a difference 20 years makes which was my last time here. Fabulous.
Some history.

The V&A Waterfront is a central part of the very beginning of the settlement of the city of Cape Town. In 1654, two years after his arrival in this relatively safe bay at the foot of Table Mountain, Jan van Riebeeck built a small jetty as part of his task to establish a refreshment station at the Cape. Fresh water and fresh produce were provided to the ships of the Dutch East India company on their arduous and lengthy journey to their outposts in Java and Batavia.
In June 1858 serious winter storms, which were a common occurrence, wrecked over 30 vessels. As a consequence, Lloyds of London refused to cover ships spending the winter in Table Bay. On a sunny day in September 17, 1860 HRH Prince Alfred, Queen Victoria’s second son, tipped the first load of stone to start construction of the breakwater for Cape Town’s first harbour to make it a safe haven all year round for passing ships.

Now it's a thriving area with music, food, art and artisans, museums and a wonderful place to spend a few days!

The sea and the harbour lie at the heart of Cape Town’s history.

The park is considered part of the traditional ancestral homelands of the Serrano, Cahuilla, Chemehuevi, and Mohave (Mojave) communities.
A few facts:

The Joshua Tree Isn’t Really a Tree

Even though it looks like a tree (sort of), The Joshua Tree is actually a species of yucca, which is in the same subgroup as orchids and flowering grasses. They grow very slowly, just 1 – 3 inches per year, which gives them an average life span of 150 years.

Joshua Tree is an International Dark Sky Park

Dark sky parks have become a bit of a buzzword these days as people seek out more natural spaces that are not polluted by artificial light. The area is one of the darkest in California, which offers epic opportunities to view the Milky Way on a clear night. That said, high levels of light pollution do threaten from nearby Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the Coachella Valley. So, to help protect against this, Joshua Three was designated an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association to help manage and preserve the nighttime environment.
