🚨 Y.O.G.O.L. ON THE GROUND CRITICAL UPDATE: Puerto Vallarta Security Alert & Shelter-in-Place 🚨
If you are currently in Puerto Vallarta or scheduled to arrive, please read this entire update. The situation on the ground is changing rapidly, and your safety is the absolute priority. Following a major federal security operation today, a state-wide "Código Rojo" (Red Code) has been activated.
Here is the current status of the city, transportation, and emergency protocols for all travelers:
📍 Security & Neighborhood Status
Shelter-in-Place Order: The U.S. Embassy and Canadian government have issued an immediate mandate for all citizens to shelter in place. Remain inside your hotel, resort, or residence until further notice.
Road Blockades: Armed groups have established blockades using burning vehicles at multiple key intersections. The Romantic Zone (Zona Romántica) has been heavily impacted, with fires reported at Highway 200 and Lázaro Cárdenas.
Active Zones: Avoid all unnecessary movement, especially near main thoroughfares and entrance/exit points of the city.
✈️ Airport & Flight Information
PVR Airport Status: While the National Guard is securing the terminal, the airport is effectively closed to commercial traffic. Road closures make it impassable and dangerous.
Cancellations: Most international and domestic flights for Sunday and Monday have been Canceled. Airlines including United, Delta, American, Southwest, Air Canada, and WestJet have grounded operations.
Travel Waivers: Do not go to the airport. Use your airline’s mobile app to check for travel waivers and rebooking options.
🛡️ Tips for Those Already Here
Stay Put: Your resort or hotel is the safest place to be. Do not leave the property for dining or sightseeing.
Stock Up: If your hotel has a market or room service, ensure you have basic supplies and water for the next 24–48 hours.
Communication: Keep your devices charged and use WhatsApp or social media to keep family updated on your safety.
Transport is Down: All public buses, taxis, and rideshare services (Uber/InDrive) have been officially suspended. Do not attempt to hail a ride.
✈️ Tips for Those on Their Way
Do Not Depart: If you are at home or a layover airport, do not attempt to reach Puerto Vallarta until the "all clear" is given.
Monitor Apps: Follow your airline's app for real-time updates. Most major carriers have already issued Travel Waivers allowing you to rebook without fees.
Resort Contact: Call your hotel or resort to inform them of your delay; many are being flexible with cancellation or late-arrival policies due to the security situation.
📞 Emergency Contact Information
Save these numbers immediately. If you are in an area of active conflict, dial 911.

The "Rich Auntie" Tech Stack:
Enroll in STEP: If you haven’t already, sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov. This is how the government finds you in an evacuation.
WhatsApp is Queen: Keep your group chats active. If you lose power or data, WhatsApp often still works on low-bandwidth WiFi.
Check Your Documentation: Make sure you have a photo of your passport on your phone and a hard copy tucked in your bag. If you need to move quickly, you don’t want to be digging for it.
Airlines & Travel: Do not go to the airport (PVR) unless your airline has confirmed your flight is leaving and the roads are cleared by the National Guard. Most major carriers (United, Delta, American, etc.) have already issued Travel Waivers for today and tomorrow. Use them.
Final Word: Puerto Vallarta is tough, but she’s hurting today. We are going to "Retire the Cape," stay in our luxury lane (even if it's just in the resort lobby), and wait for the "all clear."
Next Steps: Keep your devices charged and stay in touch with your emergency contacts. I am monitoring the situation every hour as it unfolds.
