Visit Rancho Cordova is proud to sponsor the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship 2026 in partnership with Visit Folsom, taking place today through Sunday at Lake Natoma.

This morning's cloudy skies and glassy water at Lake Natoma made for a breathtaking start to Championship weekend, as men's lightweight varsity and men's varsity rowing teams from UC Berkeley, Yale University, Harvard University, Stanford University, Syracuse University, and more competed in heats and spectators (including some feathered friends) cheered from the beach.

Lake Natoma hosts more championship events in the months of April, May, and June than any other venue.

“Lake Natoma is one of the premier rowing venues in the country," said Laura Kunkemueller, IRA Commissioner. "The Sacramento State Aquatic Center staff consistently delivers both the infrastructure and the operations to create a top-notch regatta for athletes and coaches."

"We are honored and excited to be the host of this year’s IRA National Championship and to showcase the oldest collegiate sport in the country," said Brian Dulgar, Director of the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.

Races will continue to take place on Saturday and Sunday. Missed your chance to get spectator tickets? You can livestream the IRAs here: https://www.overnght.com/sports/rowing

Yesterday morning, our team got to witness history in the making at the grand opening ceremony for the Rancho Cordova Community Food Hub (formerly known as the Rancho Cordova Food Locker).

Cheers bellowed from the large crowd, dozens of community members joined in for an impromptu "Hokey Pokey" dance (if you know, you know), and happy tears were shed as Executive Director Carrie Johnson, the Food Hub's board of directors and volunteers, and elected officials took the stage to offer words of reflection and joy over the accomplishment.

Giant shears sliced through glossy ribbon, making the message clear: the power of compassion is tangible.

The Community Food Hub will restore dignity to hungry families and neighbors by offering them an authentic grocery shopping atmosphere to better fit their cultural and dietary needs, instead of a grab-bag experience that often feels transactional and rushed. Hundreds of volunteers, including some who have served the organization for decades, are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work in the new building. They'll transport and receive nourishing food, stock shelves and freezers, build relationships with guests, throw community events, and more. Best of all, they show up happy and welcoming, bringing joy to neighbors who might be navigating truly challenging times.

As Food Hub board member and Cordova Community Council Executive Director Shelly Blanchard declared from the stage, "Kindness has a permanent address in Rancho Cordova."

We couldn't agree more. Kindness has built its home in our community, indeed.
