Hey Folks! We certainly have been MIA the past few weeks. Usually it’s because we’re out and about, soaking up all the fun the RLRofMaine has to offer in all four seasons… This time it’s because one of us needed a little unexpected fix to their gitty-up (knee). We’re hoping the fix is going to serve the Mr. well for the next few years! So far, so good! and better than that, he’s been quite good about behaving during the healing process!
Here’s a boat ride on Cupsuptic from before the fix. We enjoyed looking back at it and hope you do, too. Hoping we’ll be out again soon to enjoy more of this fun before too long. You guys need to get here soon, too! Nothing goes 💨 faster than July and August in Rangeley!!! Come enjoy! ☀️❤️ Rangeley, Maine 07.26.26

Thanks to those of you who were in touch worrying about the predicted unprecedented storm forecasted for the western mountains of Maine yesterday. “Courtesy” of the smoke from wildfires in Ontario (central Canada…), heat wasn’t able to build locally so when the cold front came down from northern Canada, there wasn’t the usual hubbub of the clash of hot and cold fronts like there might have been ~ thankfully. A little clash is always interesting, with rolls of thunder and flashes of lightning, but high winds, even potential tornadoes 😳, and large hail were avoided.
We battened down our house and several of our friends’ second home camps, so we’ll be putting those all back together today. ☺️ Otherwise, a breezy but beautiful day in the 04970 and the chainsaws stay idle. 🥳 There’s a little sweet treat if you look through the photos! 💞

Thank you, Kyle Haley Photography, for getting these wonderful drone images/video of our amazing town’s celebration of the 250th. Not all went as planned, but that doesn’t diminish our appreciation of the effort and expense that folks went to to provide this experience for our small town. And, with your skillful capture of it (and the editing that takes soooo much time!), we’re all able to enjoy the very best of it! Thank you so much!

Rangeley’s Maine Forestry Museum Logging Festival is always a GREAT time!!! Parades, exhibits, craft fair, cloggers (I hope…), bean hole suppa, children’s activity including barrel train ride and on and on. ☺️ This Working Forest Tour is a fantastic addition: getting the opportunity to see the early days of logging in the region upfront and right there! This method of logging is still needed for low impact situations and it’s fantastic that folks like Scott are keeping it alive! Reserve your spot now. Rangeley, Maine 06.30.26

Polyphemus Moth - always something fun in the RLRofMaine!!! 💛
Large population of these in North America deciduous forest but rarely seen as they are nocturnal and, as an adult in this form, only live for 4-7 (ish) days. This fella was here all day right by our front step in the bright sun. And yes, it startled me (to put it mildly…. 🥴) when I first saw it when it was all folded up like a bat🦇; not my favorite!!! Beautiful and interesting species; thought you’d like it, too.

Welllll, wish I could legitimately say "oh, I thought it would be nice if we do the during the Windjammer Days in Boot'bay, but, nope, it was just dumb luck - but my goodness, as if the Cabbage Island Clambakes wasn't fun enough, having those majestic windjammers sailing all around us certainly added a wonderful wonder to the outing.
It was another really cold winter day in Rangeley, Maine last January when I happened upon info. about the Cabbage Island Clambakes. Told the Mr. - we're doing this! The month of June in Rangeley is tough for me because I am soooooo allergic to black flies so it's a good time for us to "get out of Dodge", if we're going to. What started as inviting another couple friends to join us turned into 14 of us originally planning to go, with another friend making it a three day affair for about half of us. Soooo much fun reconnecting with ol' friends and making some new friends, too, and, in all probability, likely to be an annual outing for the newly formed OFAC! The Moore family of the Cabbage Island Clambakes couldn't be more gracious hosts! It all was SO nice! Boothbay Harbor is about 2.5 hours from Rangeley so, at least for those of us who are used to driving long distances to get to places, it definitely can be a day trip from Rangeley. You need to be there about 11:30/noon and you're back from the island about 4:30.....or make it an overnight on your way to or from Rangeley! You'll really get alllll the best Maine has to offer for vacationers: the quiet serene mountains and lakes and the bustling, rugged coast of Maine. You'll need to make your reservations for the clambake early in the winter - January/February/March. They do have a Wait List but they've been Sold Out for the season in early spring each of the last few years!!!! That should tell you what a good experience they offer their guests!!!!

We’re not always in Rangeley….

I usually make quite a fuss and whine as we’re leaving. Once I’m below Phillips/Farmington, I usually lighten up a bit. This outing was a WONDERFUL time with ol’, and some new, friends, with all kinds of new adventures in between! Here’s a little glimpse of our very fun outing. There’s SO much to Maine! We’ll be posting more if you’d like.
