Almost time to put the tent away for the season. Cold weather camping isn’t for everyone, but if you come prepared it can be a great time. New York has a number of campgrounds open into October; less occupancy than peak Summer season and New York is vibrant with fall colors. For the true weekend warrior, the backcountry offers primitive camping and lean to sites.

It doesn’t do it justice. It never will. A lens, a frame, a moment. I replay it over and over in my head. The photo doesn’t do it justice. No matter what corner of the Adirondack Park you roam there’s a mysticism, a spirit that both resides within and embodies the landscape. You feel it around you. I would not trade this feeling, and I recognize I cannot replicate it. Presence is everything. Today I wish everyone presence in their moments. Be original. Be present. Embody your own mysticism.

This year’s Winter Solstice is Saturday, December 21st. Many areas of NY have already received snow. Although, warm temperatures this week and rain aren’t helping the matter.

If the Village of Sackets Harbor isn’t on your Upstate bucket list yet, it should be! The historic little Village sits along Lake Ontario’s Eastern Shores sheltered within Black Bay. Its namesake is that of Augustus Sacket, whom was sent to the area to verify claims of a natural harbor. In fact, there was a natural harbor and it became a crucial resource in early American history. It served as a shipyard and barracks for the Northern fortification of the US Military during the War of 1812.

Today you can walk throughout the Village, waterfront, National Historic District, State Battlefield, Revolutionary War Cemeteries, and Madison Barracks. Sackets Harbor has a charming collection of small businesses and restaurants as well. Pictured here is the Tin Pan Galley () a local favorite.

From its sparkling shoreline to its deep rooted history Sackets Harbor is a MUST VISIT any time of year.

The Tupper Lake Triad is your next family friendly Adirondack hiking challenge. Short mileage, modest elevation gains, and summit views make it a great introduction to elevation hiking in the ‘dacks. It consists of three peaks within a short drive of Tupper Lake. When you complete your challenge you can submit a notice of completion to receive your own hiking patch. Your canine friend can submit one too! 🐾 🐕

Goodman Mountain - 3 miles

Now is arguably the best time of year to live and explore in Upstate NY. Not too hot, not too cold. Crisp breezes and displays of foliage blossoming around you. There is an inherent desire to be outside amongst the beauty of this fleeting season. To capture every last moment of it. Unfortunately, many of us are busy. Caught up in the cost of living. Learning life lessons. Etc.

This is your reminder to get outside these next few weeks. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or a 6hr roundtrip to see one specific destination. In the great State of NY there is natural beauty all around us. So step outside. Take a breath of fresh air. Get a friend or relative out of the house. Go for a walk.

This season will come and go, just like the others. Enjoy it while it’s here. Miss it when it’s gone. But remember, it will always come back around. Each year, each season holds a path for each and every one of us. I hope your path stays vibrant and colorful, Happy Fall Y’all !!

The next few weeks are some of the best weeks of the year. It’s a great time to live and explore in Upstate New York. Cool nights, warm days. Crisp autumn breezes. Foliage unveiling. Apple picking. Hayrides. Pumpkin patches. Cider donuts. What’s not to love about this time of year? Enjoy your Season!!
