On today’s I’ll drop some Adirondack Mountain knowledge on yuh 📖 🥾 ⛰️ During the evening hours of July 25, 2025 a storm rolled through the Adirondack high peaks prompting the creation of several new slides. A high concentration of slides occurred on Mount Colden (seen in photo taken August 2026). The Avalanche Lake portion of trail has been closed since. Mount Colden is still accessible via Lake Arnold trail. It’s quite something to witness these new slides in their youth and then look out over the high peaks landscape and see the age of the landscapes surrounding slides. Always something to appreciate and admire about the Adirondacks.

Ever Upward, Excelsior!! 🗽🏔️ 🥾

We recently brought our daughter on her first high peak hike. She was a wonderful backpack buddy and we are grateful for her play and patience throughout 9 hours of hiking. That being said, it’s not for the faint of heart. You are carrying all of your necessary equipment, supplies, survival tools, water, food, etc and a 20lb human. An undertaking of this magnitude requires accountability not impulsivity.

I would do it again! But more experienced parents know the truth, the first window is short. Our daughter is reaching the phase where she wants to be directly involved in the hike. To that, I say cheers!! Cheers to new adventures, shorter hikes, new places, slowing down.. 😊 I pray we inspire her enough to love and appreciate these places until one day we return to conquer these summits together. I’m in no rush.

Once used explicitly by their namesake, fire towers have become iconic today with hiking culture. They stand as a monument to their past lives while serving a new one today as a destination and view point.

Should we build new Fire towers today to serve the purpose of a destination and viewing area for hikers?

The Finger Lakes region is your best chance to see waterfalls without leaving your car. Deep glacial valleys, long winding roads. Can anyone name this roadside beauty?? Bonus points if you can name the State road.

The sun says swimming, but the wind says sweater weather. Spring - where going out in the morning in pants and layers becomes a heat trap in the afternoon sun. No complaints here though! Better than snow 😅

Have you been swimming yet this year? 🏊‍♂️ 🏊‍♀️

Anyone recognize the Olmstead stairway to heaven?? Frederick Law Olmstead is widely celebrated as the Father of American Landscape Architecture. One of his greatest features, in my opinion, are these stone staircases. They make for wonderful workouts 💪 🦵

It’s a great reminder that just a few months ago the Sun was set by dinner time and the temperatures were below freezing. It helps to appreciate the present moment that much more. All of New York’s seasons are beautiful in their own right, it’s all about perspective. Today though, I’m counting my blessings we’re in Spring heading towards Summer. It truly is a great time. I dream about days like today when the temperature hits below zero. Now for a few months I get to appreciate those day dreams as my reality.

Cheers to chasing Sunsets from equinox to equinox! 🍻 May these moments create eternal memories in your heart and soul 💚

This week’s goes out to our #1 fan, Marco!! () He’s our biggest supporter of content. Tallest single drop waterfall East of the Mississippi. Bonus points if you can pronounce the name correctly.

On this day, May 18, 1805, Jefferson County was established. The county was named after the serving President, Thomas Jefferson. It was formed from what was part of Oneida County.

The county has played a significant role in American history. Not long after being established as a county, the War of 1812 broke out. Several key battles took place within Jefferson County, most notably the Battle of Sackets Harbor. Later in the 19th century the power of the Black River was harnessed and powered several major factories. As a result, for a moment in time, Watertown would hold the crown of “most millionaires per capita.” Bordered by the St Lawrence River to the North and Lake Ontario to the West tourism has always played a role in the county’s history. Several grand hotels were built around the time of the Gilded age. Many of which succumbed to fire.

Fort Pine, later renamed Fort Drum, plays a significant role within the county. With the gilded age glory of factories and railroads left behind the county attempts to reinvent itself. Fort Drum has served as a lifeline to the local economy. Otherwise, the county is primarily made up of rural farm land and seasonal tourism. The promise of a new Chobani factory in Rome, NY (Oneida County) has given the dairy farmers hope for a better tomorrow. In addition, county and local officials look to once again harness the power of the Black River to bring industry back.
