Had a great day out on the property and got the floor for the shed done. Also found a friend on my hammock tree!!(See pics below) Glad she didn't try to cuddle....

Sonny put in a good amount of work today and I'm honestly super proud of him and how great he did. From helping mommy rake, helping me cut boards and even helping cook lunch over the fire, my dude hung in there all day and not once complained. We all waddled out of the woods again today but we'll get a week to rest and recover before our next outing. Supposed to rain all week.

Hope everyone had a great day!! Time for a shower and bed!

Happy Mother's Day, everyone!

After the rain cleared, we enjoyed a beautiful breezy day atop the mountain. The butterflies made the radioactive green foilage come alive with chaotic movement. A show I could watch for hours...maybe we didn't get the staking of buildings done, but weeds were encroaching on our covered area, so Jasen did some quick clearing instead.

We wrapped the new (repurposed) gate with solar rope lights, giving it a little twinkle ✨️

Also identified some mapleleaf viburnum, saw loads of blackberry blossoms, and greenbrier. Jasen picked a sprig of honeysuckle on the way out for free smells - the mountain is generous 💚🌿🌳

The rain came back and nixed the grilling idea, so Jasen is running to Sonic. Great excuse for a strawberry limeade 😇

Got a chance to meet our neighbor Mr. Howard Pennycuff the other day. He's an Army Vet and belongs to one of the oldest families that originally settled this area. His family are the ones that originally owned this old Homestead long ago. Total, he owns close to 1000 acres in this area still.

Today, we spent the morning putting up a gate on the road that joins our two properties. It was really nice getting to work with him and listen to his stories about growing up and hunting this mountain. He shared with me a couple of good hunting spots on our property as well as some areas he said black bears like to den! Yikes!! Thankful for the chance to meet him and look forward to partnering with him in the future to build his retirement cabin.

After a ridiculously long, cold and wet winter, we are gearing back up and getting things ready to go on the property. It's taken us a little longer than expected to get back after it due to some health issues but we have good news. Jasen got the all clear from his doctors to get back to work! Since last June, Jasen has been dealing with some heart issues and was on the verge of needing a pace maker. After what seemed like endless testing, multiple setbacks and a couple of mini heart attacks, the doctor has decided not to install a pace maker. They did some further testing along with second and third opinions. They found no damage to his heart at all and feel the issue over time will resolve itself. What a relief!!!

So here's to a year of good health and lots of progress on the property!! Thank you to everyone who has sent prayers and checked on us. We definitely appreciate you all!!

Little Sawmill unboxing/unloading. It's not easy doing this without a tractor so if someone wants to donate one we would greatly appreciate it! 🤣😂🤣

Woodland Mills is hands down one of the best companies to do business with. They have checked on us several times since the mill was delivered just to make sure everything is good to go! Go give their website a look if you're in the market for anything from sawmills, woodchippers, stump grinders etc. They have a lot to drool over!!

Proud of my little buddy today. We took a trip to the storage unit. An older man needed some help moving some heavier things. Sonny jumped up and said let's help! After we were done he gave the guy a high five and said "thanks for letting us help". Proud dad moment for sure. Raise your kids to help others! It's likely they will grow up not ever really needing help themselves.

Sorry for the delay. The unboxing of the mill video should be up this weekend and we will hopefully get the thing assembled this weekend as well.

Sometimes in life, we have to just take a break and enjoy the moment. We had some family come visit and it was nice taking a break to do some hiking and relaxing!

Now its time to get back after it! As an old mentor (our sons name sake) once said, "that work ain't gonna get done without ya....time to bend yer back boy!" I sure do miss that Old Man! He's often the voice of reason in my head. One of these days I'd love to tell you his story. It's a pretty amazing one. Little hint. He was a 101st Airborne Paratrooper during Vietnam.

Okay enough talk. Happy Friday everyone! Do something nice for someone today!
