Finding a hotel that fits 2 adults + 3 kids is the most stressful part of planning any family trip.

In the U.S., most rooms max at 4. Outside the U.S., most rooms max at 2, sometimes 3.

So, I started keeping a database of every hotel we’ve stayed in and how many people the rooms actually fit. Plus which hotels offer real family rooms (rare outside the US, but they exist!).

It’s free, organized by location, and growing as we travel. ✈️

You’re all exhausted, overstimulated, and suddenly everyone needs the bathroom. Yikes. 😬

So here’s how we don’t ruin our trip before it even starts: we break down the game plan with the kids before we even land.

I’m talking explaining what every step will look like from getting off the plane until we get to our accommodations.

We travel carry-on only, so we walk off with our bags. First stop is always the nearest bathroom. The girls and I go in while Tim waits with the bags, then he goes.

If we’re flying internationally, I use that bathroom break to stack all five of our passports open to the photo page, in the order we’ll hand them to the officer. We walk up to the counter ready, so there’s no fumbling.

From there, straight to ground transportation.

If you DO check bags, divide and conquer. Pre-decide a meeting point, then one parent on baggage duty and the other on kid duty for snacks, bathroom breaks, and keeping everyone together.

Keep all your rental car and transportation info in one place (like in my app, Go Travel Keeper 😉) so no one is digging through emails on the way there.

No decisions in the moment and no running in three directions, because you already made the plan and stuck to it.

After a few times, those first 14 minutes will go from the most stressful part of the trip to the smoothest start to your vacation. 😅

Some families plan trips around beaches, but we plan them around our favorite books. 📚

Anne of Green Gables took us to Prince Edward Island.
Little House took us across the Midwest.
Eloise took us to NYC.
Harry Potter took us to Scotland and London.

The best part for this mom was watching a book they’ve read a dozen times suddenly become a place they’re standing in.

Save this for your own bookshelf-inspired trip. ✨

👉 Follow .keeper if you’re raising readers who travel…and travelers who read.

📚 Comment the book your kids would pick to help inspire our next trip!

Last night, someone who follows me for both points travel and family travel content sent me a really honest DM.

She told me she had no idea what Travel Keeper actually does just from watching my stories. Totally fair point, and probably true for a lot of you. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Travel Keeper is the app I built for all the little details you keep in a spreadsheet, Google Doc, and/or Notes app while planning your family trips.

✈️ Itineraries with day-by-day plans.
🛂 Passport expirations and loyalty numbers for the whole family.
💰 The real cost of every trip in cash, points, credits, and free night certs.
🧳 Wishlist for the someday trips you don’t quite have plans for yet.
📚 School break countdowns so you book flights and everything else at the right time.

All on your phone. No login, ads, or selling your data. Saved where it belongs, which is with you.

I built it because I was running our family’s travel out of 3 spreadsheets, 2 Google Docs, dozens of screenshots, and somehow still forgetting things. I wanted one place for everything, so I built it myself. 👩🏻‍💻

Free in the App Store.
(Android friends, rolling out on Google Play any day now.)
