You’re all exhausted, overstimulated, and suddenly everyone needs the bathroom. Yikes. 😬
So here’s how we don’t ruin our trip before it even starts: we break down the game plan with the kids before we even land.
I’m talking explaining what every step will look like from getting off the plane until we get to our accommodations.
We travel carry-on only, so we walk off with our bags. First stop is always the nearest bathroom. The girls and I go in while Tim waits with the bags, then he goes.
If we’re flying internationally, I use that bathroom break to stack all five of our passports open to the photo page, in the order we’ll hand them to the officer. We walk up to the counter ready, so there’s no fumbling.
From there, straight to ground transportation.
If you DO check bags, divide and conquer. Pre-decide a meeting point, then one parent on baggage duty and the other on kid duty for snacks, bathroom breaks, and keeping everyone together.
Keep all your rental car and transportation info in one place (like in my app, Go Travel Keeper 😉) so no one is digging through emails on the way there.
No decisions in the moment and no running in three directions, because you already made the plan and stuck to it.
After a few times, those first 14 minutes will go from the most stressful part of the trip to the smoothest start to your vacation. 😅
