Before there were books, there was the earth.

The moors, the highlands, the cliffs above the sea shaped the writers who walked them, and the writers shaped how we see the world.

This Earth Day, we’re thinking about what we lose when wild places disappear. And what we gain when we take the time to actually stand in them and appreciate them.

Happy Earth Day!

Today, April 21st, would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday. 👑

I have thought about her so much today.

I was in England when she passed in September 2022, and it is a moment I will never forget.

The grief was quiet and dignified (so very British) but underneath it was something that took my breath away: an outpouring of love and pride so deep it felt ancient. People lined the streets, left flowers by the thousands, and spoke of her the way you speak of someone who was simply always there (because she kind of was for most people). A steady, constant, a thread woven through the fabric of an entire nation’s life.

She was Queen for 70 years. Seventy years of service, of showing up, of grace under pressure the world has rarely seen matched. She was the only monarch most people on earth had ever known.

As an Anglophile, I have always felt a particular tenderness for the history and traditions of this remarkable country.

But watching Britain mourn their Queen gave me something no book or museum ever could: a glimpse into the living, breathing soul of a people and their story.

Happy 100th birthday, Your Majesty. What a life. What a reign. What a woman. 🇬🇧

What is the British Book Club Tour?

📚It is Author Sites: Each tour we visit multiple British author sites of meaning where we learn about and connect with each author on a personal level. Understanding their backgrounds helps us to better understand their works.
It is Immersive

👒 Experiences: We don’t just shuttle you from one site to the next. The goal of our tour is to immerse you in activities that will help you connect to these authors and to this beautiful country. Experiences like hiking on the moors of the Brontes, dressing up in Regency attire, or seeing a Shakespearean play will give you real meaning during our tour.

🫖 It is Amazing Food & Afternoon Tea: We take great care
in what we feed our guests. We love finding incredible restaurants, quaint tea shops, cooking classes, and award winning private chefs to keep us fed and happy!

👯‍♀️ It is Lifelong Friendships: My favorite part of the British
Book Club Tour is the beautiful connections made by likeminded people. Books and stories have a way of bringing people together.

Today is Jane Austen’s birthday! 250 years ago, this literary heroine was born!

At 35, when many women were expected to marry and give up ambition, Jane Austen published her first novel. A clergyman’s daughter with no wealth and little recognition, she wrote in secret, signing her books only as “By a Lady.”

Her witty heroines and sharp observations turned into timeless classics: Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, and more.

She died at just 41, never knowing her novels would inspire films, TV series, book clubs, and festivals worldwide. Today, Jane Austen’s name is a billion-dollar brand and a voice that still speaks across centuries.

Her story proves it’s never about privilege or perfect timing. It’s about courage, vision, and using your voice, even when no one is listening yet.
