Set Sail: Why a Cruise Might Be Your Perfect Getaway

I still remember taking my morning stroll around the ship in Alaska and watching whales breaching and glaciers calving off the bow. I realized then that cruising is different way to experience the world.
I have been fortunate to experience all types of cruising from large ship, yacht cruising, river cruising, adults only cruising and expedition cruising. Whether you're a first-time traveler or a seasoned explorer, here’s why a cruise might be exactly what you need.

1. Unpack Once, See the World
On a cruise, your hotel travels with you. Visit multiple destinations without the hassle of constantly packing and unpacking.

2. All-Inclusive Convenience
Most cruises include accommodations, meals, entertainment and transportation into one price. That means planning is minimized and allows more time to relax. Time is not wasted traveling from one place to another . You can relax and not stress over planning every detail.

3. Something for Everyone
From pools and spas to live shows and fitness classes cruises offer activities for every age and interest. Whether you want to unwind or stay active, the choice is yours.

4. Stunning Destinations
Cruises take you to breathtaking locations—tropical islands, historic cities, glaciers, and more—all in one trip.

5. Great Value
When you consider everything included, cruises often provide excellent value compared to planning each part of a trip separately.

Not all cruises are the same. Which one is your travel personality?
Ocean Cruises
The classic cruise experience. Large ships travel between major ports and offer endless amenities like theaters, restaurants, casino’s and pools- I love having cocktails on the Magic Carpet on the Celebrity Edge series or enjoying the balcony hammock on Virgin Voyages - an adults only cruise line

River Cruises
Smaller ships navigate inland waterways, stopping in the heart of cities and towns.
Best for: Cultural travelers and those who prefer a slower, more intimate experience. I have sailed with Uniworld multiple times and my most memorable experience was having access to St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice at night all to ourselves On another Uniworld cruise, our guide not only took us on a tour but invited us into her home and had a rooftop party for us. I truly appreciate the personalized service on a river cruise

Expedition Cruises
Adventure-focused journeys to remote destinations like Antarctica or the Galápagos.
Best for: Nature lovers and thrill-seekers who want unique, off-the-beaten-path experiences. Sailing to the Artic on Quark was an experience few get to have. We had days without seeing anyone else than those on our ship. When I saw the walruses’ on the glacier and watched the polar bear romping in the snow- it felt surreal.
Next on my list, Antarctica!

Luxury Cruises
High-end ships offering personalized service, gourmet dining, and spacious accommodations.
Best for: Travelers seeking comfort, exclusivity, and premium experiences. Ritz Carlton and Regents both are high end cruise experiences. On the Ritz Carlton Ilma I mentioned to our Cabin Ambassador that we loved Indian food and an Indian meal was created personally for us.

Yacht Cruising -
An intimate , personalized luxury experience - A Sea Dream cruise is my all time favorite !It has a maximum 112 passengers, high crew to guest ratio, and premium gourmet dining. The vibe, the staff and the champagne and caviar party in the water really make Sea Dream stand out! It has been voted Highest Rated Restaurant at Sea" in 2025 by Forbes Travel Guide. The lasagna was truly unforgettable created by the Italian chef on board.

Themed Cruises
Centered around specific interests—music, food, wellness, or even pop culture.
Best for: Travelers who want to connect with like-minded people while enjoying their passions.
