If it can't be grown, it must be mined. Mining isn't possible without miners who work hard, often at great risk so our country can have the materials it requires to be a productive, technologically advanced nation. Thank a miner on National Miners Day!

Today is National Mine Rescue Day where we honor and thank those who put their lives on the line to save others.

Updated information about the fatal accident at the Mollie Kathleen mine. Patrick Weier was an employee at the tour and was guiding the group on the cage, which was descending when he lost his life. Reports indicate an issue with the cage, possible the door that was felt by the hoist operator who stopped the descent. This is a very sad situation but we're glad all the guests were evacuated safely. Nothing is 100% safe but the Mollie Kathleen tour has operated for more than 50 years and has an excellent safety record. Our condolences go out to Patrick's family, friends and coworkers.

Investigators were trying to figure out what led to an elevator accident at a former Colorado gold mine that killed a tour guide.

Very unfortunate situation at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine. From what we understand there was a malfunction with the cage or hoist resulting in some tour guests being trapped on the cage and others at the 1,000' level. One person on the cage has died as a result of the incident.

Update: Rescue operations are complete and everyone is out of the mine.

We spent some time at the New Pass Mine learning from the owner Don. One of the things we did was blasting. Was it fun? Is that even a question!?
