Recently, Bettina served as the Senior Director of Corporate Events for a leading healthcare corporation, where she produced 160 events annually while helping to maintain the corporation's award-winning culture. Bettina's strength lies in her natural eye for elegance and style, meticulous organization, and her passion for celebrating diversity and foreign cultures. Bettina’s creative work seamlessly intertwines with her own travel journeys. She’s traveled to 4 continents, 26 countries, 36 US states, and lived in Paris, NYC, and New Zealand. She’s taken two year-long travel sabbaticals giving her experience and personal insights into a variety of global destinations and properties worldwide. Some properties speak to a certain kind of traveler, the one who values history, artistry, and hospitality that comes from the heart. Castello di Reschio is one of those places.

Set on a vast private estate, this thousand-year-old castle has been transformed into a cultural haven. From its two restaurants (one refined, one rustic) to its hand-crafted spirits and estate-made wines, Reschio doesn’t just serve guests, it shares a way of life.

The team here doesn’t just deliver exceptional service. They believe in the experience. Sebastiano, our guide, seemed to know exactly where we were at every moment, gently guiding us from place to place without ever interrupting the flow. Amusingly, he also bore a striking resemblance to one of the portraits at Reschio. Luca, the bartender, brought the estate to life with his stories, shared over a perfectly chilled amaro.

There’s a quiet brilliance here, an atmosphere that can’t be manufactured. It’s authentic. It’s soulful. And it’s one of the most extraordinary places I’ve had the privilege to visit!

A Destination Unto Itself
Reschio isn’t near a city center. You won’t walk to shops or local restaurants. That’s because Reschio is the destination.

Days here unfold at their own pace. You might start with breakfast overlooking the Tuscan hills, followed by horseback riding through olive groves, or a visit to the lake cabin for a private picnic and a swim. Maybe it's truffle hunting with the estate dogs, a cooking class outdoors, or simply lounging by the castle’s marinetime pine-shaded pool.

Guests don’t come to Reschio to check boxes. They come to feel the culture of the estate.
We saw stylish couples from Milan, families with young children, friends on a relaxed getaway, and somehow everyone fit seamlessly into the rhythm of the estate. It’s quiet and private, but full of life in the most understated way.

The Bathhouse at Reschio
Beneath the castle, inside what was once an ancient wine cellar, lies one of the most magical spas I’ve ever encountered. The Bathhouse at Reschio is lit by candlelight and features arched stone ceilings, a saltwater pool, a cool-down cave with an overhead rain shower, and a sense of stillness that feels completely otherworldly.
This is not a traditional spa, it’s a sanctuary.

One experience that truly stands out is the four-hour couples’ treatment in a private spa suite, complete with dual bathtubs lined in linen, campaign beds, side-by-side massage tables, and a cozy fireplace. It’s intimate, glamorous, and beautifully appointed in all the best ways. Absolutely worth every second, and it books well in advance.

Spring Affair at Reschio
Spring at Castello di Reschio feels like stepping into a storybook, rolling green hills, blooming wildflowers, and the kind of light that makes everything feel cinematic. We were lucky enough to be on property during their annual Spring Affair, a joyful celebration that brings the estate’s creative spirit to life.

Local artisans gathered in the stables, showcasing hand-thrown ceramics, embroidery, ancient loom weaving, marble paper making, and live calligraphy demonstrations. Guests had the chance to try their hand at the ancient art of archery, learning proper technique with traditional longbows against the elegant backdrop of the estate’s equestrian stables. People wandered between stalls, children ran barefoot through the grass, and it was genuinely uplifting to see these time-honored crafts celebrated and brought back to life.

As the afternoon unfolded, everyone paused to watch the release of a falcon into the sky, a moment of pure awe. There was estate wine, soft music, and the kind of joy that can’t be choreographed.

Spring Affair isn’t a publicized event. It happens when the family feels inspired, spontaneous, genuine, and full of heart. If you’re lucky enough to be there when it does, it’s Reschio at its finest.

Design Lovers Take Note

At Reschio, nothing is accidental. Every light switch, every piece of linen, every door handle is the result of intentional, artful design. That’s because the property is overseen by Count Benedikt Bolza, a trained architect and designer, and his wife, Donna Nencia, who brings her own refined, bohemian elegance to the experience.

Together, they’ve created a retreat where beauty isn’t just aesthetic, it’s a way of life.
The castle interiors are curated by BB for Reschio, the family’s design studio, and it shows. Suites feature vaulted ceilings, hand-carved fireplaces, custom ceramics, and curated objects that feel more collected than decorated. Even the bath amenities and linens are crafted in collaboration with Italian artisans.

Years ago, I fell in love with the rich green leather barstools at The Beekman Hotel in New York and searched everywhere to find them, with no luck. So imagine my surprise when I walked into the bar at Reschio and discovered they were designed by their design studio! I also discovered I can’t afford even one barstool…so I’ll keep admiring them from afar and visiting Reschio whenever I can instead.

Design-forward travelers will be in heaven here. And if you fall in love with something during your stay, you’re in luck, the estate’s Bottega showcases many of their custom-made pieces, and yes, you can bring a bit of Reschio home with you!
