Heading east out of downtown San Diego on 'G' Street, you merge onto Highway 94. As you head east the city begins to fade away into open backcountry. Past Lemon Grove and Spring Valley and Jamul, the first small village is Dulzura.
Dulzura has a cafe. Continuing east, the road climbs and winds into a valley where you'll find Barrett Junction, with a cafe and fishing lake. Short drive east, and a right turn will bring you to the border town of Tecate, Baja Mexico. Here you can tour the large Tecate Brewery.
