While long lining sturgeon for research purposes for CDFW, I saw something I don’t believe I’ve seen before. I’ve seen a lot of White Sturgeon, but I can’t remember ever seeing one this color ♠️ and with dwarf, to no scute pattern….

Got a chance to take out Naval officer Rion, and his new bride Hannah yesterday when they stopped off to fish for White Sturgeon. They are currently on their way from Jacksonville to his new duty station at Whidbey Island, Washington.
The weather was a little on the cool side, but luckily the fishing was 🔥
They had been putting in a lot of hours behind the wheel so I told him it was OK if we started at nine, and I think we quit at four.

Had the pleasure of introducing these young anglers to Sturgeon fishing! One of the biggest highlights of the day for me was the boys genuine interest in the fish themselves. I’m always a little taken back when I see some fish for a certain fish for years, yet never take the time to learn about their lifecycle and habitat. Other highlights came watching them learn to read the bite vs recognizing boat movements, or a w**d twirling off their line beneath the surface. Seeing them set the hook and fight their own fish was rewarding as well.
We also got a chance to use our new Sturgeon cradles
I first field tested these cradles during our participation in CDFW’s longline sturgeon study and was impressed with how gentle they are on the fish in addition to the craftsmanship holding up. We literally put hundreds of thrashing sturgeon in them without one rip in the net. I did have them make mine 60” so I could also use it for an in the water measurement to avoid illegally boating sturgeon larger than 60”. They also did them in the Gatecrasher colors of orange & black. Give them a shout. The custom work isn’t something special they did for me. They will do that for any of their clients.
We also hope to see you at the International Sportsmans Expo in Sacramento
