The holidays at Disney officially start in August and go all the way through the first week of January. You see fall start to show up first followed by Halloween, and then on November 1 starts the transition from the fall holidays into the winter holiday holidays.

It’s no surprise that Disney does these decorations and entertainment beautifully, but it also means that there are very large crowds of people visiting at the same time.

If you want to take advantage of the holiday seasons at Disney without the large crowds, avoid the last two to three weeks of October and the last two weeks of December into the first week of January.

You also need to be prepared for some wild weather swings during this period of time. In both California and Florida it can be incredibly hot, rainy, and stormy, or a combination of both. Rainy days can be some of the most fun days at Disney as long as you’re prepared with ponchos and waterproof shoes.

there are also holiday parties that take place that will close California adventure or Magic Kingdom early from August through October at Disneyland and August through December at Magic Kingdom. If you’re interested in going to those parties, you have to plan well in advance as the Halloween party tickets often go on sale in June.

I am so used to the stunning facade of It’s a Small World at Disneyland that I forget how it looks at Magic Kingdom.
