We're based in San Gabriel. We drive past the Mission District every day — and last week we finally went inside.
A theater from 1927. All 21 California Missions, in miniature, sitting in one courtyard. A grapevine connected to California's earliest wine history. And then the part we didn't see coming: the story of Los Angeles leads back here. Mission San Gabriel was founded in 1771, and the Pobladores who went on to found Los Angeles set out from this spot.
Thank you to Councilmember Herrera and the City of San Gabriel for showing us around, and for sharing a history that most visitors — and plenty of us who live and work here — drive right past every day. We'd love to keep working with the City to help more travelers discover this side of San Gabriel.
For a travel company, it turned out to be a good reminder: exploring the world starts at home.
