I made both of these designs while I was driving down the Pacific Coast Highway from the Bay Area to L.A. on a solo adventure.
I stopped when I wanted to stop. I sat and watched the ocean crash against the rocky cliffs. I met an older gentlemen and his grown up daughter who talked about taking the PCH together every few years since she was little. I smiled when they were reminiscing and laughed when he heard a song he loved come up on his radio. He turned up the volume in his old VW van and he started dancing while his daughter just laughed at him and shook her head. I was glad to be there to experience the moment with them.
My new car broke by San Luis Obispo and I unexpectedly had to spend the night by myself in SLO instead of making it to my friends in L.A. A Honda dealership handled my car issues (thankfully still under warranty).
I was frustrated and it felt a little strange to be in that situation alone, especially after being married for almost 10 years. We usually adventure together unless it’s a work trip or I’m with other family.
After settling into the hotel across the street from the car place, I realized I forgot my computer and phone charger at home. Instead of panicking I grabbed an Uber with 6% battery life left on my phone to the Apple store downtown SLO. I got a charger for both items and they let me sit there and charge my phone enough to get back to my hotel. Then they told me where to eat - a little Italian place a couple of blocks away.
I ate pasta and indulged in dessert and a glass of wine, and sat looking at the strands of lights surrounding me outside on their patio, feeling content.
I went back to the hotel and made these two designs.
The next day I picked up my car (no check engine light on, yay!) and made it the rest of the way to L.A. feeling pretty damn fabulous about my solo adventure, bumps along the way and all. 🚗🌊⛰☀️🌻💁🏻♀️😊
I can’t express how strongly I encourage you, every single one of you, to take it easy and have your own solo adventures. It’s nice to be reminded that you can enjoy life alone and still learn things about yourself at any age.✌️
