I love this photo Justin snapped of me & my three sons at Lake Alpine on Father’s Day. We were in Arnold enjoying some mountain time at the cabin I manage. Lake Alpine is a 40 minute drive up Highway 4. This portion of Highway 4 is nicknamed the California Alps, which is why I nicknamed the cabin The Swiss Chalet. Flashback to August 2015 when we moved into a rental house with a great room that measured over 1,000 square feet. It was built in the early 60’s, Eichler style. A coyote would trot past our front windows at the same time every day. Somehow we convinced our landlord to rent to us for half of what he was asking. It had been his parents’ home; he was in his 80’s and came by twice a week to care for the 1.5 acre property. We lived in this house nearly 3 years. We didn’t want to leave, it was sold. There was a guest house on the property that an odd couple had rented forever; we never got the full scoop on them. Good memories, and so so thankful we have landed in our permanent home without a landlord.

One semester into being a high school mom, the biggest surprise has been that my sandwiches have become somewhat legendary at Lincoln High. Cru’s friends ask him to bring sandwiches for them. I do put my heart and soul into them, I’m flattered they have been noticed! One time he traded one for Oreos; I told him he would make his own lunches if he ever did that again. This particular sandwich is light on meat, because he had a short day—usually they are extra extra meaty. Gotta fuel him up, help him grow strong. “And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.” -Luke 2:40
The game changer is the bread. My bread isn’t fresh from the bakery, but I’ve found a way to make it taste like it is.
