Follow along as we fly at home and various hot air balloon festivals during the year. Starting in January 2023, we started flying our custom made balloon "Steampunk Sea". You'll need to see it glow to really see all of it's steampunk themed animals. Starting in July 2023, we can now offer paid flights. I’ve lost count of the number of years I’ve been at The Great Forest Park Balloon Race. Probably at least 15 years as a balloon crew member. This is my fifth year as a pilot. Today was the FIRST time I flew out of Forest Park! I thought I had a shot at the target, but realized a rather large building was coming up quickly in my flight path. 😳 Decided clearing the building was priority. My wonderful passenger agreed with me that clearing the building was a good choice. Winds were light and variable. At one point I had six balloons below me at the same time. Managed to fly until we got to O’Fallon Park. Had a nice landing on short green grass. Great first flight at The Great Forest Park Balloon Race! 🐢🐬

St. Louis set a new high temp today of 98, and it didn’t cool down much for the glow. The crowd was still huge. They came onto the field like a tidal wave when the ropes dropped to let them on the field. We did some rocking and rolling with the wind gusts, but we still got lots of people in the basket for pictures. Finger crossed for good flying weather for the race this morning. 🐢🐬

Another great weekend in Macomb has come to an end. We had two great flights this weekend and then got the glow done Saturday evening. Another great flight this morning as part of the Macomb Balloon Rally! Took off from outside the field and threw a baggie at the UP “target” well enough to add a badge to my merit sash. 😎 We then traveled the farthest distance of all the balloons this morning our our fight. Our passengers got to fly almost 11 miles. Our crew was there to catch us just off a field road way off the main roads. We are looking forward to a great glow this evening! 🐢🐬

(OK. I’m a fraud. ☹️I can’t tell a lie. I didn’t do anything to earn a merit badge. I really did throw a baggie on the UP “target”, but no badge. The whole merit sash, badges included, was just given to me as part of the UP theme. )

Great first flight at Macomb! The theme this year is “Up” (like the movie). The target in the morning is the house being lifted by balloons. The crew said “Dug the dog” even made an appearance during the chase and tried to jump in one of the chase vehicles. Had some great passengers get their first flight in. Always exciting to get to experience the magic of ballooning though fresh eyes. 🐢🐬
