Rose and I just returned from an incredible journey through Scotland, and once again we were reminded why we love to travel—the places we discover, the people we meet, and the memories we bring home.

That’s really what Travel With Doug is about for us—sharing what we’ve learned, helping others discover their own next adventure, and building a community of people who love to travel.

Next Monday evening, August 31, we’re getting together in Denton for a relaxed evening of travel, conversation and inspiration. We’ll share some of our Scotland adventure and talk about Alaska, river cruising, scenic rail and some of the journeys ahead.

We already have a great group coming, and we’d love to have you join us and be part of our growing travel community!

Sometimes travel plans change…and apparently event plans do too!

Since getting home from Scotland, I’ve been fighting a respiratory bug. I really thought I’d be ready to go by Thursday, but I’ve decided it’s smarter to give myself a little more time to recover.

More importantly, I want to be at my best for this evening.

So we’re not canceling — we’re just moving the date!

If you love travel, I could use your help!

This Thursday, Rose and I are kicking off the Travel With Doug Community, and I’d really love for you to come.

Here’s what I want you to know: this isn’t about coming so I can sell you a trip.

I want to create a community of people who love travel—sharing stories, discovering new places, learning from each other and inspiring one another to see more of this amazing world.

Maybe you’ll join us on one of our Signature Journeys. Maybe we’ll help you plan your own adventure. Or maybe you’ll hear an idea and go plan it yourself.

All of that is a win in my book.

Since we’re just getting started, I’d especially love your ideas about what you’d like this community to become.

We’ll also hear four very different travel stories—from European river cruising and Canyon Spirit to Alaska and our recent trip through Scotland.

Thursday, August 20 | 6–8 PM

If you love travel, come hang out with us Thursday night. Rose and I would really love to see you there!

Travel Thoughts Thursday

We’ve been home from Scotland and Ireland for a couple of days now, and I’m still thinking about the trip.

Yes, we saw some incredible places—and took WAY too many pictures. But when I think back, some of my favorite memories are the simple ones: Rose and I sitting in a little pub talking about our day, laughing together, meeting new people, and just enjoying where we were.

I think that’s why I love travel so much.

It’s not just about where you go. It’s about who you share it with and the memories you bring home.

I’m thankful for another adventure with Rose…and yes, we’re already talking about the next one.

What trip has given you some of your favorite memories?

Investing in Your Journey Wednesday

We’re home from Scotland! And as much as we loved the trip, sleeping in our own bed again felt pretty good.

But this trip was about more than seeing Scotland.

One of the reasons Rose and I chose this particular trip was because I wanted to experience Collette for myself.

I can read itineraries, compare hotels and study what a tour company includes. But a brochure can’t tell me what it actually feels like to travel with them.

How good is the Tour Manager? Does the itinerary feel rushed? How much time is spent on the motorcoach? What happens when something goes wrong? And do you come home feeling like you really experienced the destination?

For 10 days, we got to experience Collette just like my clients would—and we came home with a much better understanding of both Scotland and the kind of traveler I think would really enjoy traveling with Collette.

That’s part of what Investing in Your Journey means to me. Sometimes the best research I can do for my clients is to pack a suitcase and experience it myself.

And next Thursday, August 20, I’d love to tell you more about it!

We’re kicking off our Travel With Doug Community of Travelers from 6–8 PM at Zera Coffee in Denton. Rose and I will share some of our Scotland experience, and several of our travel friends will share stories from a European river cruise, Canyon Spirit rail journey and an Alaska CruiseTour.

No big sales presentation—just travelers getting together, sharing experiences and dreaming about where we might go next.

🇮🇪 One Last Adventure Before Heading Home!

Yesterday we squeezed in one more adventure before wrapping up this incredible trip, taking a Paddywagon tour to Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains.

What a beautiful way to get just a glimpse of Ireland! The green countryside, mountains, ancient ruins, and history definitely left us feeling like we only scratched the surface of everything Ireland has to offer.

And sometimes a glimpse is all it takes. 😂 Rose and I are already thinking that a longer, more extensive trip through Ireland might need to find its way onto our future travel list as we continue exploring the world together.

We’re sitting at the airport now waiting for our flight home and looking back on an amazing 12 days in Scotland and Ireland.

Most of our trip was spent traveling through Scotland on a Collette tour with just 19 people from across the U.S. and Canada. What a great group! One of the things we love about traveling is meeting people who share that same love of seeing the world.

Over the course of the tour, we shared meals, laughed together, explored some incredible places, and swapped plenty of travel stories. Everyone has a story about where they’ve been, what they’ve experienced, and where they still dream of going. By the end of a trip like this, you’re not just traveling with a group of strangers anymore.

Hopefully our paths cross again someday and we get the chance to share another adventure together!

This trip gave us castles and ancient ruins, mountains and lochs, big cities and tiny villages, five ferries in one day, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, incredible scenery, and more history than we could possibly absorb in 12 days.

But once again, we’re reminded that travel is about more than just the places you see. It’s also about the people you meet and the memories you make along the way.

Now it’s time to head home. ✈️❤️

But I have a feeling Ireland hasn’t seen the last of us. 🇮🇪

For those who have explored Ireland, where should we go next time?
