As we enter June, Travel Advisor Appreciation Month has come to a close.

Throughout May, I received many messages from cruise lines, tour companies, hotels, and travel partners thanking me for the business I have entrusted to them over the past year. While I certainly appreciate those kind words, my thoughts have been focused elsewhere.

Instead of celebrating travel advisors, I want to celebrate and thank the people who made this first year possible — my clients.

When I launched Travel with Doug a year ago, I wasn’t sure exactly what that first year would look like. Thanks to your trust, encouragement, referrals, and support, I have been blessed to help more than 100 travelers create memories around the world and have exceeded every goal I set for my first year in business.

But what means the most to me isn’t any milestone or achievement. It’s the trust behind it.

Every booking represents a story. A family creating memories together. A couple celebrating an anniversary. Friends exploring a new destination. A long-awaited bucket-list adventure finally becoming reality.

Coming from a background in ministry, serving people has always been at the heart of what I do. Travel has simply become a new way for me to serve others and help create meaningful experiences.

So as Travel Advisor Appreciation Month comes to a close, I simply want to say thank you.

Thank you for your trust.
Thank you for your referrals.
Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your adventures.

Rose and I are incredibly grateful for each of you, and we look forward to helping create many more memories in the years ahead.

My latest edition of Doug’s Global Passport just dropped!

This week I’m sharing what Rose and I learned during our recent trip to Sint Maarten and why sometimes the best vacation isn’t about seeing more—it’s about slowing down, recharging, and enjoying the moment.

Before my first river cruise, I thought it would simply be an easier way to travel. What I discovered was one of the most relaxing and enriching travel experiences I’ve ever had.

Imagine unpacking once, waking up in a new destination each day, exploring historic towns and villages, and spending the evenings watching castles, vineyards, and beautiful scenery drift by from the comfort of your ship.

After experiencing the Danube River firsthand, I completely understand why so many travelers fall in love with river cruising. It has become one of my favorite ways to explore the world.

In fact, Rose and I enjoyed it so much that we already have two more river cruises planned next year—one on the Rhine River and another on Portugal’s beautiful Douro River.

Have you ever considered taking a river cruise?

This version subtly creates excitement and credibility because you’re sharing what you’re personally doing rather than promoting a trip.

As a travel advisor, Rose and I are always dreaming about and planning future adventures. It’s part of what we love — discovering new places, experiencing different cultures, and helping others do the same.

This year alone has already taken us from the Philippines… to a beautiful Danube River cruise through Europe… to the Canyon Spirit luxury train through the American Southwest… to the turquoise waters of Sint Maarten.

And we still have more adventures ahead:
• Scotland and the Highlands
• A Mediterranean cruise
• Italy including Rome, Venice, and Florence/Tuscany
• A special trip to Los Angeles celebrating Rose’s aunt’s 90th birthday
• And hopefully a Biblical journey through Turkey that I’m currently putting together

But travel doesn’t have to mean a huge international journey every time.

One thing I truly believe is that everyone should have at least one trip they’re looking forward to — something on the calendar that gives you excitement, anticipation, and memories waiting to be made.

Maybe it’s Europe. Maybe it’s Alaska. Maybe it’s a Caribbean beach, a scenic train ride, or simply exploring somewhere you’ve always wanted to experience.

The world is full of incredible places and stories waiting to be stamped into your passport.

So now I’m curious… where would you love to go next?

Travel days don’t always go as planned.

Coming home from Sint Maarten yesterday, we ran into flight issues and ended up spending the night in Charlotte instead of making it home as expected. But honestly, that’s part of travel sometimes — little hiccups, unexpected detours, and stories you didn’t plan on having.

Even with the delays, travel is still always an adventure worth experiencing. The memories, experiences, and people you meet along the way always outweigh the inconveniences.

After finally getting home this morning, Rose and I headed headed to a fundraiser this afternoon supporting a school in the Philippines. It was such a special time filled with great food, fellowship, music, laughter, and the opportunity to build new relationships with wonderful people.

Days like today remind me how blessed life really is.

Life is great for Doug & Rose.

Today we leave the beautiful island of Sint Maarten and head back home after an incredible week of adventures, beautiful beaches, amazing food, and unforgettable memories.

Yesterday we spent one more relaxing afternoon at our favorite beach of the trip before enjoying an incredible gourmet dinner at a famous historic restaurant that was once part of an old sugar cane plantation. The history, atmosphere, and amazing meal made for a perfect final evening on the island.

This trip reminded us why so many people return to Sint Maarten again and again. The mix of beautiful Caribbean water, friendly people, relaxing beaches, great excursions, and unique culture makes it such a special destination.

We’re grateful for the memories made this week and already looking forward to a return visit in the future.

Good morning from beautiful Sint Maarten.

Enjoying a peaceful morning at our condo listening to the waves before we head out to explore more of the island and a few different beaches today. Tonight we’ll end the day with a sunset dinner cruise on the Caribbean waters.

One of the things we’re learning quickly about this island is why so many people come back again and again. The views, the water, the atmosphere… it’s hard not to fall in love with it here.

Today was another incredible day here in Sint Maarten.

We spent the afternoon on the French side of the island at Friar’s Bay, and it was absolutely beautiful — crystal clear Caribbean water tucked into a peaceful little cove with gorgeous views everywhere you looked.

Tonight we enjoyed an amazing gourmet dinner prepared by a renowned chef, and the combination of incredible food, ocean views, and the atmosphere made for such a memorable evening.

Here’s a short clip from some of today’s adventures.

Tomorrow evening we’re looking forward to a sunset dinner cruise, and before that we plan to explore even more of the island. After experiencing this place for ourselves, we completely understand why so many people return to Sint Maarten again and again.

While we’re enjoying an amazing week here in Sint Maarten, I had to take a minute to share this incredible limited-time offer because we just experienced this journey ourselves — and it truly was amazing.

Rose and I recently traveled on the Canyon Spirit luxury train from Salt Lake City to Denver, and it exceeded every expectation. If you’ve heard of Rocky Mountaineer in Canada, this is their sister company here in the U.S. — with the same style of luxury rail experience, incredible service, glass-dome views, and unforgettable scenery.

One of our favorite parts was traveling through Ruby Canyon — a stretch you can only really experience from the train. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking.

What we loved most:
• Relaxed luxury travel without the stress of airports or long drives
• Incredible scenery the entire journey
• Great food and service onboard
• Comfortable hotels and seamless luggage handling
• A truly unique way to experience the American Southwest

If a luxury rail journey has ever been on your bucket list, this is a fantastic opportunity — especially with savings up to $700 per couple for a limited time.

And after experiencing it ourselves, we’d genuinely love to help you plan it.
