I asked ChatGPT a funny question today:

“Knowing everything you know about me, of all the animals in the world, what would my spirit animal be?”

The answer surprised me a little.

An elephant.

But after reading why, I thought…well, maybe that actually fits.

Elephants travel, but they like traveling with their people. That’s definitely me. I love seeing new places, but the best part has become experiencing them with Rose, family, friends, and the groups who travel with us.

They’re relational. They look after their herd. They remember where they’ve been. And they keep moving and exploring.

That part really got me.

For a lot of years, missions took me around the world to serve people. Now in this season of life, Rose and I are still traveling the world—but these days, a big part of the joy is helping other people experience it with us.

Maybe that’s why “Traveling with Doug & Rose is a blast” fits us pretty well. We don’t just want to see the world. We want to enjoy the journey and bring some people along with us.

So apparently, I’m an elephant. Who knew? 😂

While many of you back home in America were just waking up this morning, we had already been busy exploring Sicily!

Our day started at Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Nothing like standing on the side of an active volcano before lunch to make your normal morning routine seem a little boring.

Then it was off to beautiful Taormina — incredible views, narrow streets, shops, history, and just a great place to wander around and take it all in.

Of course, we also had to try some authentic Sicilian street food. Today it was arancino — a crispy fried rice ball stuffed with all kinds of goodness. I’ve always believed experiencing the local food is part of experiencing the culture. At least that’s the excuse I’m using as we eat our way across Europe!

Mount Etna, Taormina, and arancino… Sicily was a pretty good way to spend the day.

And tomorrow morning, while many of you are waking up back home, we’ll be waking up in Greece.

I could get used to this.

I’ve been looking forward to this one for a long time, and apparently we aren’t the only ones!

Our Canadian Rockies journey next June is now completely sold out, and Cosmos has started a waiting list.

But here’s the good news…

Several months ago, I was able to secure 12 spots specifically for our Travel With Doug group. We already have 8 of us going, which means I still have 4 spots left that are ours.

Unfortunately, I can’t hold onto them much longer.

Because there are people waiting for this tour, Cosmos will need those four spots back on Monday. So this weekend is the final opportunity to join us before I have to release them.

And I can understand why this one sold out. We’ll be traveling through some of the most beautiful parts of Western Canada—Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Whistler and Victoria—plus riding the Rocky Mountaineer through the Canadian Rockies.

One coach. A limited number of travelers. And already 8 of us ready to experience it together.

I would really love to fill those last four spots with people from our travel community before I have to give them back.

WE’RE HEADING OUT AGAIN!

Tomorrow, Rose and I are off on another adventure — this time to the Mediterranean!

We’ll start with a few days in Rome, then I’ll be hosting a group of 19 as we cruise from Rome to Venice with stops in some incredible places along the way. After the cruise, Rose and I will finish things up with more time in Venice and Florence/Tuscany.

And if you know me, you know I’ll be sharing plenty along the way.

A lot of what goes into our Signature Journeys happens behind the scenes, long before I ever share a trip.

I spend hours researching cruise lines, ships, itineraries, ports, cabin locations and the best time of year to go. If Rose and I are inviting people to travel with us, I want it to be a journey we’re genuinely excited to take ourselves.

That’s exactly what went into our 2028 British Isles Signature Journey.

We just returned from Scotland this past August and loved it. While Texas was dealing with triple-digit heat, our highs were around 70° or cooler. It didn’t take much convincing that August would be a great time to go back!

After all the research, we reserved space on Princess Majestic, August 18–30, 2028, and Rose and I just booked our own midship balcony for less than $3,000 per person, plus $100 per person in onboard credit.

And the timing worked out well. Through October 10, Princess is offering an Early Booking Bonus with discounted pricing, complimentary upgrades, onboard credit and just a $100 deposit.

I’ll include the Princess itinerary map below so you can see where we’re headed.

That’s really what our Signature Journeys are about—doing the research, choosing trips Rose and I want to experience ourselves, and inviting others to come experience them with us.
