Honey Ginger Tumeric and Ube Double Scoop (6.75 USD) at Davis Creamery, Davis, CA.

I stumbled upon Davis Creamery on my bike during a day trip to Davis—it had quite a line! They make their ice cream in-house with a variety of flavors rotating each day. Traditional, as well as more creative flavors, are available; chili crisp and sweet corn tamale and jalapeño were amongst the more unconventional flavors available when I visited.

Due to an ongoing dairy shortage with their supplier I didn’t get to sample flavors. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my selections, both of which were quite creamy and rich. The honey ginger turmeric was quite turmeric forward, with a bit of grittiness from the spice powder. The ube was very fragrant and seemed to feature mashed ube/taro, which I appreciated.

Portion sizes are quite generous with a scoop being more like 2 scoops of ice cream! I will be back in the future.

Earlier this year I visited the Tillamook Creamery and joined their Honorary Tillamook Taste Bud, Ice Cream Experience.

Tillamook Creamery is a must visit for those interested in the behind the scenes view of Tillamook's products. During the ice cream experience we learned about Tillamook's production processes and how they approached flavor profiles and quality of ice cream. We also learned about ourselves in terms of our tasting capabilities! We enjoyed freshly cut slices of their ice cream (and during my visit, their outgoing ice cream sandwiches) and left with souvenirs and unique photo opportunities.

Afterward, I visited the dining hall and tried their seasonal fish and chips, where I substituted chips for their fried cheese curds. It was my first time having albacore tuna as the fried fish, but this appears to be a thing on the Oregon coastline! Afterward, I checked out the self-guided factory tour and tried a few samples before leaving fresh cheese curds and some cheddar. After several bouts of un-squeaky cheese curds on the West Coast, I was super glad that these curds were squeaky and tasty!

Make sure to visit early as it gets quite busy later in the day!

Ney Choru and Beef Roast Combo at Kappa Santa Clara ()

Had an excellent lunch at Kappa Santa Clara, which specializes in Kerala cuisine and just opened about a half year ago. The restaurant closes end of day tomorrow (December 28, 2025) due to beginning to replace Super-Kyo-Po Plaza with townhomes starting next year.

The beef roast was hearty and came with slices of dried coconut meat alongside tender beef chunks; meanwhile the ney choru (short grain rice with ghee, onion, raisins, cashews, and spices (had clove and cardamom)) was fluffy and soothing.

Also had a pint of blood orange beer of which the server added some fish fry and onion— a nice touch to the meal!

Wishing all the best in their next chapter as this was quite the memorable meal. Friendly service and atmosphere as well. They offer a buffet lunch but you can order à la carte as well.

Garden Fresh, Mountain View, CA.

Garden Fresh is small yet friendly Chinese vegetarian restaurant. What makes them particularly unique, besides that they are one of a few Chinese vegetarian restaurants in the South Bay, is their efforts in homemade vegetarian meats. (In my most recent visit, I even saw their chef preparing spring rolls for frying) Pictured are their:

Veggie Duck- pressed shiitake mushroom and tofu skin covered with batter and deep fried, served with a brown sauce and a bed of vegetables.

Veggie Fish- layers of tofu skin covered in seaweed and fried, topped with homemade sweet and sour sauce.

Burdock with Bok Choy: this was a bit of a surprise as the burdock was part of the soy protein rather than just burdock slices. Nonetheless, it was quite pleasant!

All their entrees come with rice included (choice of white or brown) and are reasonably priced.

Lunch Buffet at The Second Wife, Skyport, San Jose, CA.

Stopped by for lunch after seeing a very thoughtful post from yesterday night and likewise had an amazing meal.

’s lunch buffet offers a wide variety of appetizers, biryanis, vegetarian and chicken/goat entrees, and two desserts. All are thoughtfully handcrafted. The chef told us that they rotate dishes, so we can expect to see something different the next time we visit.

Several of the dishes I hadn’t seen before, like the mint chicken, and I was introduced to the sharbat drink as well. I appreciated the attention to detail, such as the slivered almonds in the rice pudding and the ground pistachios in the moong dal halwa, the cucumber and mint infused water, and how the golden buffet warmers had hooks to hoist the dish lids when grabbing food.

Highly recommend and will be back! Really hope people can come to enjoy their food — is probably the best Indian lunch buffet I’ve had in the Bay Area.

Blackcurrant and pistachio, cardamom and rose gelato (double scoop) at Jack’s Gelato, Cambridge, UK.

This gelato shop had the longest lines I’ve seen for ice cream/ gelato in a while (like .sgv’s persistent lines for boba) and so I had to check it out. Turns out, Jack’s Gelato has been featured on Good Food’s 24 best places to get an ice cream this summer. The shop is known for its daily rotating flavor menu of sophisticated flavors; they also make chocolate dipped cones in house. The crowds are not only from those who are waiting in person for pickup, but also those picking up online orders.

I thoroughly enjoyed the gelato, which was smooth and well flavored. The blackcurrant gelato had seeds/pulp in it, making for a delightful eating experience, while the cardamom and rose notes complemented the natural pistachio gelato base very well. A must try while in Cambridge.
