Quick question about your camera roll: What’s on it? What travel photos are there that only YOU could identify?

I love to snap photos of textures, spiraling staircases, crumbling walls, moss on old stone, and the bubbles in a glass-clear pool. My husband just shakes his head. 😊 I can guarantee most people would have no clue what they are!-

But here's what I've learned: the photos I treasure most are rarely of the big, famous sights. They're the tiny textures and colors that caught my eye and made me stop.

I'm starting a little challenge. Share your most favorite unexpected vacation photo in the comments. The odd, the beautiful, the "why did I take this?" one that you secretly love. Tell us where you were, too.

A few of my thoughts about Alaskan vacations: There is a moment — somewhere between watching a glacier calve into the sea and standing in silence so complete it feels almost sacred — when Alaska stops being a destination and becomes something else entirely.

I stood on the deck of a ship as the scale of everything — the mountains, the water, the sky — simply refused to fit inside any frame I tried to put around it. I set my camera to panoramic, and it still couldn't do it justice.

Alaska does that to you. It is one of the few places on earth that genuinely humbles you. Some of you have visited Alaska several times, and you can vouch for what I'm saying.

If Alaska has been quietly sitting on your "must-visit" list, let's talk. The 2026 season is behind us. I have been planning 2027 cruises for months now, and 2028 Alaskan cruises are now open to reserve. Not interested in a cruise? Not to worry — I design land-based vacations too!

This means now is exactly the right time to begin planning the Alaskan adventure that suits you best — on land or sea.

Happy Travel Tip Tuesday! Yes, everyone, I know you like to use Google Maps to navigate a new town or vacation spot, but you may not always have access to the internet. My tip is tried and true, and it doesn’t require the wi-fi!

Before you head out to explore, grab a business card from the front desk and tuck it in your wallet. If you get turned around or need a taxi back, just hand it to the driver — no language barrier, no stress.

My bonus tip: snap a photo of the card on your phone, too. That way you have a backup if the card gets left in another purse or pocket.

Little details like this make a big difference — and they are exactly the kind of thing I share with my clients before every journey.

Let me use the Machu Picchu example again. Picture two travelers on the exact same Machu Picchu itinerary.

✔ Same hotel.
✔ Same 4 a.m. wake-up call.
✔ Same sunrise hike up the mountain.

First traveler returns home and tells everyone how exhausting it was — too early, too much walking, not enough to do once you got there.

Second traveler comes home with a story they’ll tell for years. They talk about the way the clouds parted over the ruins, the silence before the sun broke the horizon, the feeling of standing somewhere people have stood for centuries. They'll never forget this - ever.

Same trip. Same everything. Completely different outlook and experience. Why?

Perspective is the one thing no itinerary can control — and it's the one thing that matters most.

I saw something that made me laugh — and then made me think.

A tour company shared real reviews from travelers who visited Machu Picchu. Some were disappointed. One said the sunrise was too early. Another said there "wasn't much to do" at one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Here's the thing: no matter where you go — a UNESCO World Heritage site, a quiet beach town, a five-star resort — perspective matters more than the destination itself. The same sunrise that feels like a hassle to one person is a once-in-a-lifetime memory to another.

That's part of why I love what I do. It's not just about booking the right flights and hotels — it's about making sure every detail is set up so you can walk into the experience ready to see the wonder in front of you, not the inconvenience.

Where you go matters. How you show up for it matters more.
