Summer trip to Spain’s Costa del Sol!
Gillian and I spent a few weeks on the Costa del Sol and the island of Mallorca this June 2026. Our good friends run a Flemenco Tour company out of Kansas (45 Grados Tours) and we joined in on the fun.
Tips: in Malaga these were some of favorite spots.
Antigua Casa de Guardia:
Opening in 1840, this is the oldest bar in Malaga with big oak barrels full of Spanish vino lining the wall. Pop in, and grab a vermut and enjoy the rustic atmosphere.
El Pimpi: a fabulous bodega spot with a labyrinth of different little bars inside their building. Explore and have fun.
La Trunca: a crowded hip tapas bar with a youthful exuberance. Loved their album covers decor.
Casa Lola: more than tapas, a great spot for a meal. Can be crowded, but the wait wasn’t too long.
Tips: in Palma on Mallorca.
Lili’s Bruch: Great coffee bar in old town near the plaza Mercat.
Sa Ronda: Great tapas bar! Order the squid and always get it “dirty” style with the ink.
El Corte Inglés: this is a chain of department stores in Spain with wonderful roof top restaurants. We like to go for lunch when visiting Barcelona and Palma.
Santa Catalina Mercat: great small neighborhood market and a perfect spot for a quick breakfast and a cottage. This was close to our accommodations.
Mercado de L’Olivar: THE MARKET in Palma!Note: skip this on a Monday, as the fish section will be closed.
Bar Goa: Another great neighborhood bar near our accommodations. And right where you can grab a cab, or catch the bus to old town or other destinations.
Tips: Torremolinos:
Bodega Guerola: fabulous locals tapas bar.
Order a caña and some pulpo.
Swimming in the Med!
