Ever done the Sidewinder & Ocotillo Trail Loop in Phoenix?

This trail is an easy loop and pretty flat but with pretty cacti and views of north Phoenix. Depending on the time of year, you'll get to see pretty wildflowers. Many mountain bikers like this trail since it's fairly flat and easy. The parking lot is huge so you won't have an issue getting parking. Be sure to bring a hat and plenty of water because it's not a shaded trail at all!

New Blog!! All about our favorite hiking trails in Arizona for beginners. Check it out!

Here’s one. This trail is a hidden gem and never very busy. It's a bit farther north in Phoenix so too far for many hikers. But since we live up this way, it's one of our favorites. It's clearly marked, has beautiful canyons, and at the end of the portion we do there's a creek. Dogs are allowed so we love to let Forester pounce around in the water to cool off before we turn around and head back to the car. It's an easy hike and just the right distance from the lot to the creek and back.

All Trails link and stats: 30.6mi point to point trail, but we always just do a short ~3mi portion out & back trail from the parking lot at Rock Springs. ⛰

The Palm Springs Air Museum is dog-friendly - surprise! Not many museums are, so we were quite delighted to hear that. It's a museum established in 1996 that spans four hangers. It is open everyday from 10am-5pm and we spent about 2 hours there. Adult admission is $20 and kids (and dogs) are free!

It was rated by CNN as one of the top 14 aviation museums in the world. We've been to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, AZ and honestly we thought that one was larger and had a lot more to see, but both were great. The staff at Palm Springs Air museum were extremely friendly, helpful, and such dog lovers so we felt comfortable there.

At this museum, you can begin with a video and then tour each hangar on your own. See planes, gliders, artifacts, and exhibits about WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

This hike looks pretty cool right??

It will be a memorable one for us as it’s the first time we let Forster off leash - ever.

The Mission Creek Preserve Trail is slightly north of Palm Springs near the hot springs area. It's a 4.5/5 rated trail that is very easy.

There's a short dirt road drive to get to the fence and from there you're essentially walking on an unpaved road.

It's a fairly flat, straight, 3.2-mile out & back trail. This is perfect for those of you who are new to hiking...or maybe your puppy or dog is.

We went on a Wednesday so it was empty, leaving the trail to just use to soak up. The trail runs alongside a creek the whole time (but the creek was completely dried up while we were there).

The highlight of the trail is seeing the old buildings that have been converted into picnic areas surrounded by palm trees. It would be a nice spot for a post-hike picnic. We were told there's normally wildlife and birds to watch out for, but we didn't see much of that.

Tip: If it's a warm day, start early because it's not a shaded trail.

Our final night in Utah we stayed at the Zion Mountain Ranch.

We got a cabin for the night there and it was a wonderful property. You're surrounded by bison (apparently although we never got to see them), chickens, horses (momma horse just had a baby when we got there), and dogs!

The highlight of our stay here was meeting Rex, one of the owner's dogs. He's the farm dog protecting all the animals and roaming the property.

He was super friendly and Forester loved hanging out with him. After meeting Rex, Zach now wants to get a Great Pyronese dog someday and I'm not complaining. He was a chill, loving doggy.

We got food to-go from the restaurant on-site here so we could eat in the cabin with Forester. The food was amazing!! The restaurant itself looked lovely inside, but wasn't dog-friendly.

The cabin was really nice and spacious with a bench on the patio that was calling our name. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying some libations on the patio and talking about our future together - and the future is bright, my friends! ☀️

Our final full day in Utah was designated to a quick hike and then relaxing on a ranch later.

We drove to the Kodachrome Basin State Park which was dog-friendly (most state parks are more dog-friendly than national parks).

We hiked the Angel's Palace trail which is an easy 1.5mi hike with gorgeous views at the end.
