Milestone Rides

Decided to jump in on an overnight bike tour with the Meetup group I cofounded. The group is still going strong with many leaders and introduced the beauty of bicycle travel to the local Southern California area. It has well surpassed my dream of introducing it to at least one person. It has since evolved into much more tougher rides (including this one). This benefits the healthy and capable but have seen a decline in the beginner-friendly trips. The truth is most of those type of rides have been done so many times that it is tough to find something fresh and new. Nevertheless, I hope we continue to sprinkled those in amongst the epic ones. I'm still sore from this one. It is the first ride with these 2 guys who I will be riding with in this year's Stagecoach 400 Sideshow ride which apparently goes counter-clockwise from the route in late March. I can't imagine I'll be doing 80 miles everyday for 5 days to finish on time! My butt is still sore from being on the saddle and I have this lingering cough from phlegm stuck in my lungs. Other than that, I'm in good spirits and glad I can squeeze this trip even with the bustling work schedule and looking after mom that has since been my reality since 2022.

I decided to go on a 6 day solo bikepacking trip on Thanksgiving Day.

Rode to Lake Skinner in Murrietta to be offered a Thanksgiving meal by camp neighbors.

The next day rode over to Escondido only to find that the campground I wanted to stay had no open spots so I splurged on a motel. Loiterers were talking all night long but I had my earplugs in so it didn’t bother me.

Day 3 I rode near to the 🇲🇽 🇺🇸 border. Windy night blew everything off my bench.

Then I turned around and had stops at San Elijo and Crystal Cove. Got to see the Top Gun house for the first time and then rode I-5 since the Marines didn’t let me through.

Last day got to ride through Chino Hills State Park. I’m thoroughly sore, tired, and happy that I got to do this trip. Don’t know when I can do this again but hopefully soon.

It doesn’t look like it but this hill was a doozie. The anguish and pain was real. Overall a great route today. Enjoyed the up and downs along with really great riding weather.

It’s been over a year since I’ve traveled by bike and this was a good trip lead by . Kudos to the fantastic route and a quick getaway into Simi Valley and exploring what the Valley has to offer. This was much deserved.

I needed this excursion even if it’s only to pick up towels from 2 Bed Bath & Beyonds. Why burn fossil fuel when you can burn calories. It’s undeniable that I’m happiest before, during and after I ride my bike.

I thought it was a good idea to ride a midnight century on my touring bike this past weekend. We started at 10pm and I got back to my car at 5:30am. Didn’t make it even though I really put in work this year on the road bike. The extra weight and me not riding for 2 weeks did me in. There’s always next year! The rest of the group got to see the sunrise on their bike. I collapsed in bed when I got home and slept until Sunday.

What are the odds of my bike being damaged before the Santa Barbara Century ride. Well, it happened. 😢Bummed out about not getting to ride and my bike being damaged but still managed to enjoy a weekend away. I’m going to bring it in to a shop to assess how much it would take to repair the carbon fiber damage. Out of a nice light bike to ride in the mean-time. C’est la vie. S**t happens.
