The Waldorf Astoria is indeed a product of the Astor family, with its origins deeply rooted in a family feud. The hotel's name and initial development are directly linked to two branches of the Astor family:

1. William Waldorf Astor built the original Waldorf Hotel in 1893 on the site of his family mansion, next to his aunt Caroline Astor's home.

2. John Jacob Astor IV, Caroline's son, responded by building the Astoria Hotel in 1897 on the site of his mother's mansion.

These two hotels were eventually combined to form the Waldorf-Astoria, which became one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. The hyphenated name reflects the merger of these two Astor family properties.

While the Astor family was instrumental in the hotel's creation and early history, they no longer own or operate the Waldorf Astoria. The ownership has changed hands several times:

1. The Hilton family acquired the hotel in 1949.
2. In 2014, it was sold to Anbang Insurance Group, a Beijing-based company.
3. Currently, it's under the control of Dajia Insurance Group Co., following the Chinese government's seizure of Anbang's assets.

Today, the Waldorf Astoria continues to be a symbol of luxury and maintains its historical connection to the Astor family through its name and legacy, even though the family is no longer involved in its ownership or management.
