Evenings like this remind us why we love Tahoe and why we’ve worked so hard to share it responsibly with others.
We wanted to update everyone on what’s happening with our short-term rental permit. Our renewal was recently denied due to South Lake Tahoe’s “buffer rule”, which blocks new or returning STR permits within 150 feet of another permitted property.
This was especially disappointing since we held a valid permit before Measure T took effect and have always remained in good standing with the City — with no violations, no complaints, and a strong record of responsible hosting.
The good news is that the City Council is now considering replacing the buffer rule with a citywide cap, which would allow fair access to permits for responsible hosts. The proposed change is awaiting its first reading, and we’re hopeful that progress is being made toward a more balanced and equitable approach.
