In July 1901, the Wright Brothers descended on Kitty Hawk for their second time with high expectations. The previous year they had tested a glider, but because of its small size, they only piloted it a few times and mostly flew it as a large kite. In 1901, they built a much larger glider with the intent of piloting and proving their wing-warping technique. Despite their best efforts, the glider never worked to their expectations. It was much harder to control compared to their 1900 glider and it created less lift than they calculated.

How did they bounce back from such disappointment? Well, after a solemn journey back to Dayton, they continued working. They didn't give up. They created a wind tunnel, they re-did their math calculations, and they made improvements to their next glider which proved extremely successful. They almost gave up after 1901, but persevered and were able to overcome their disappointment to become the legends they are today.

🔥🎉 Announcement... the Beach Crawls have been extended*!

The OBX Jeep Invasion Beach Crawls—"Kitty Hawk Krawls"—have been extended by about a mile! The crawls will start at Byrd Street, traverse the Kitty Hawk beach past the former starting point, and continue to the regular exit point.

* The course and length of the OBX Jeep Invasion Beach Crawls are weather dependent and may be changed for public safety by the Town of Kitty Hawk, Kitty Hawk Emergency Services, or OBX Jeep Invasion.
