A few more highlights from our hike this Saturday! Sargent is the second highest peak in Acadia, at 1,374 feet in elevation. We took the Maple Spring to Hadlock Brook Trails up to the summit, but there are multiple ways to climb. This path happens to be one of my faves though. I love the sprawling views after you cross the treeline!! When you get up top, you have 365 degree views, and it's usually windy up there as you saw if you watched my reel 🤣As some people we met up there mentioned, it feels like you're walking on the moon! I absolutely love the terrain up there. The mountain was shaped by glaciers during the last Ice Age, leaving behind the smooth granite surfaces and deep valleys.
FUN FACTS: The mountain was named in honor of Charles Sprague Sargent, the first director of Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum and a key figure in Acadia’s conservation.
The area around Sargent Mountain is home to a variety of bird species, including woodpeckers, nuthatches, and even snowy owls in winter.
From the top of Sargent Mountain, you can see⬇️
✔️Jordan Pond
✔️Cadillac Mountain
✔️The Cranberry Isles
This hike is definitely not one for beginners in the winter season, but it's certainly attainable with a little preparation and experience. If you're looking to gain either, I have tons of resources on my website, lovemaineadventures.com. Check it out or leave your questions in the comments!! Happy trails everyone!
