Lessons Unlimited Music School is seeking to hire a qualified Band Director to join our faculty. Our company has 9 locations in the greater St. Louis Metro area.

Candidates must possess:

Strong communications skills
Patience
Demonstrable knowledge of their subject expertise
The technical proficiency and means to perform simple website data entry when logging individual lessons and notes into our software at least once per month.
a reliable means of transportation (public transport will satisfy this requirement)
Job Type: Part-time

Responsibilities and Duties:

We are hiring a band instructor to teach private or group music lessons at our various locations. Most of our instructors conduct lessons out of several of our Lessons Unlimited Locations depending on the day of the week and the locations in demand. Instructors are always given the options to choose which locations are geographically acceptable for them to teach at and which ones they do not wish to teach at. We conduct lessons on a year-round basis. Our Fall and Winter semesters are regimented 18-week programs while our Summer semester affords more flexibility, and a lower lesson number commitment for both our families and our instructors if they choose. We require our students to register and pay for a full 18 week semester in order to protect our faculty member’s time and to help provide a reasonable and stable work schedule. Curriculum structure and resources can and should vary from student to student based on each individual student’s knowledge level and capabilities. It is the instructor's discretion to direct student development, the course of study, and recommend corresponding lesson materials for each student. This instructor role provides a high degree of autonomy with little managerial supervision and oversight. The faculty member is responsible for choosing their hours of availability, and their preferred work locations and Lessons Unlimited will provide students accordingly. Candidates must possess the self-motivation, personal accountability, and independent responsibility to represent Lessons Unlimited, themselves, and their student’s interest in a professional manner with diligence and integrity. This is a part-time opportunity that may grow into a full-time opportunity if an instructor provides quality lessons, and chooses to provide adequate availability.

Qualifications and Skills:

An ideal candidate will have completed a Bachelors of Fine Arts or higher degree focused on the instrument or instruments they are qualified to teach. An applicant may also be considered if they are currently working towards their bachelor's degree in education or performance for the instrument of their expertise and have previous teaching experience in their subject(s).

We realize this is a little outside the norm for our posts, but today is Net Neutrality Action Day, and we would like to ask you to stand and act in solidarity with us, and many other private citizens and businesses alike to save a free and equal Internet. The current FCC chairman wants to hand content access and editing control to the internet service providers who supply our connection, making them the decision makers behind what content they want you to see, or what they want to suppress, and which online services that they want you to be able to use. This is unacceptable for a free and open democracy, and detrimental to a huge portion of our national economy. Please contact your congressmen and representatives and let them know that you support net neutrality. http://battleforthenet.com has all the resources you will need to do this easily with the click of 1 button.

Few people will argue that private music lessons are one of those extra curricula where costs can add up quickly. There are tuition costs, the instruments themselves cost money to rent or purchase, and even after you've acquired them, most instruments have ongoing maintenance expenses or consumable parts that you still have to deal with. It can become very easy for a family who genuinely wants to take music lessons to look at all the dollar signs piling up and decide that it's just not possible. [ 308 more words ]
