Another happy customer.
We just got home from our tour last night and had a great time.
We enjoyed all the accommodations - every day was a nice surprise.
I think our favorites were Hotel Bothwell and the HS Clay House B&B - both places made me wish I could just hang out for a while!
Kelly @ the HS Clay House was a wonderful hostess. I loved all the open space in the house and how welcoming she was to all of us. It was so relaxing, I hated to leave!

My husband was a little reluctant to pay someone else to take care of logistics, but was pleasantly surprised every step of the way, so I think we convinced him!

The shuttle driver that took us back from St. Charles to Clinton on and was fantastic! He provided so much service to departing riders and we overheard him making plans to help pick up or drop off gear riders needed or had left behind somewhere. We asked him about trail side support and logistics and it was nice to know that there were always people around that would help if needed. I wanted to put in two thumbs up for him, too! - Helen S. - Colorado

Riding Etiquette

Riding Etiquette for the Trails

Riding by yourself or in a group can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it comes with its own set of rules and best practices. Here are some riding etiquette tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride on the trails:

1. Communication is Key

Hand Signals: Use clear hand signals to communicate with other riders. Signal turns, stops, and obstacles to ensure everyone is aware of what’s ahead.
Verbal Cues: Call out hazards, slowing, and stopping. Communication helps keep the group informed and safe.
2. Ride Predictably with a group

Steady Pace: Maintain a steady pace and avoid sudden accelerations or braking. This helps prevent collisions and keeps the group moving smoothly.
Hold Your Line: Stay in your line and avoid weaving or making sudden movements. This is especially important on narrow trails.
3. Respect Personal Space

Maintain Distance: Keep a safe distance from the rider in front of you. This allows for reaction time in case of sudden stops or changes in speed.
Side-by-Side Riding: When riding two abreast, ensure there is enough space for other trail users to pass safely. Be prepared to switch to single file when necessary.
4. Be Mindful of Other Trail Users

Yielding: Yield to pedestrians and slower trail users. Announce your presence when approaching from behind to avoid startling them.
Passing Safely: When passing other cyclists or trail users, do so on the left and give ample space. Pass at a safe and controlled speed.
5. Stay Aware of Your Surroundings

Trail Conditions: Keep an eye on the trail conditions and be prepared for loose gravel, potholes, and other obstacles. Adjust your speed and line accordingly.
Wildlife and Nature: Be mindful of wildlife and the natural environment. Avoid disturbing animals and respect the trail’s ecosystem.
6. Ride as a Cohesive Unit

Regrouping: If the group gets spread out, find safe spots to regroup. This ensures no one gets left behind and everyone stays together.
Lead and Sweep Riders: Designate a lead rider to set the pace and a sweep rider to ensure no one falls behind. This helps keep the group organized and safe.
7. Be Prepared for Emergencies

First Aid Kit: Carry a basic first aid kit for minor injuries. It’s also useful to have a plan in place for more serious emergencies.
Emergency Contacts: Ensure everyone has emergency contact information and knows the location of the nearest help if needed.
8. Respect the Trail and Environment

Leave No Trace: Follow Leave No Trace principles by carrying out all trash and respecting the natural environment.
Trail Etiquette: Follow all posted trail rules and guidelines to ensure the trail remains open and enjoyable for everyone.
By following these riding etiquette tips, you’ll help create a safe, enjoyable, and respectful riding experience for everyone.

Happy cycling on the trails!
