Budapest Review – May 26–29, 2026
I arrived in Budapest on May 26 at 11:30 AM, looking forward to exploring a city I had heard so much about.
May 27
My first stop was the Grand Market Hall, a beautiful two-story market filled with local products, food, and culture. After that, I walked to the Great Synagogue, where I visited the synagogue, museum, and memorial garden. The admission was about €40 per person, which I felt was somewhat expensive.
Later, I joined a food tour. The guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable, but I felt the food selections could have been better.
In the afternoon, I visited one of Budapest’s most unique places, Szimpla Kert, a fascinating ruin bar unlike anything I had seen before. I then continued to St. Stephen’s Basilica, which was truly impressive both inside and out.

The next day I explored the historic Buda side of the city, including Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, and the iconic Széchenyi Chain Bridge. I also visited the magnificent Hungarian Parliament Building.
In the evening, I took a Danube River dinner cruise featuring live music and dancing. Seeing Budapest illuminated at night from the river was spectacular. After the cruise, I walked back along the Danube to admire the Parliament building and waterfront beautifully lit up.

On my final morning, I walked about 45 minutes to the famous New York Café, often called the most beautiful café in the world. Unfortunately, it was closed due to technical issues. However, I didn’t mind because the walk through the city was enjoyable and allowed me to see even more of Budapest.
My Overall Impression
Having traveled extensively around the world, I can honestly say that Budapest exceeded my expectations. The city is clean, efficient, friendly, and easy to navigate. Many people speak English, making communication simple for visitors. The taxi system is excellent, with clean, modern vehicles, and traffic moves surprisingly well for a major European capital.
Budapest offers beautiful architecture, fascinating history, vibrant nightlife, excellent public spaces, and stunning views along the Danube. It combines old-world charm with modern efficiency.
My rating: 9 out of 10.
I would gladly return and highly recommend Budapest to anyone looking for a European destination rich in culture, history, and beauty.
