There's one space left on Gems of Tuscany: a two-bedroom apartment at Terre di Baccio, our 16th-century villa in the Chianti hills, with its own living room and kitchenette. It works for two friends who each want their own bedroom, a couple who wants room to spread out, or 3-4 folks traveling together.

You'll spend your days hunting truffles with Massimo and his dogs, cooking with Chef Mauro outside San Gimignano, and sitting down to dinner at Dario Cecchini's long tables in Panzano, then finish with three nights in Florence. When you share all that with someone you love, you'll be saying "remember when…" for years.

If Tuscany is on your list, here's why NOW is the time to go!

It's harvest season in Italy. The grapes are pressed and the new w**e is resting in the cellars. The olive harvest is underway and the first oil of the year is bright green and peppery. It's white truffle season in San Miniato, where we'll hunt with a third-generation truffle hunter and his dogs. Porcini mushrooms and chestnuts are on the menus, and the vegetables for our meals come straight from fall gardens.

The vineyards are gold, copper and crimson. The summer crowds have gone home. The days are mild, the evenings are cool... and if you've ever been to Italy in the summer, you know what a gift that is.

There is so much excitement watching the people who have arrived in Santiago after walking for days and hundreds of miles across Spain on the Camino de Santiago. It is such an accomplishment for them. Our group walked just the last five miles of it on a PAF tour through Portugal ending in Santiago de Compostela eight years ago. We wanted to experience a small piece of it. Even five miles was amazing. It is pure joy to arrive in the square in front of the cathedral. 'Buen camino!'
