Waiting to board a bus to Mount Rainier are Gerald Hulscher, 14, and Larry Kerth, 14, (standing l to r in the doorway of the bus) and (l to r) Charles Miller, 14, Sandy Sanders, 8, and John Brown, 12. They are holding skis made out of old barrel staves. In January and February of 1949, the Tacoma Boy's Club took boys up to Mt. Rainier every Sunday morning. Neither the club or the boys owned any real skis, but judging by the boys' smiles, that didn't appear to dampen their enthusiasm for the trip.
